My neighborhood is like a war zone on the 4rth of July with stadium quality fireworks... Unsafe for people, pets and structures. Thank you! The city needs to get rid of the fireworks. You aren't making money off of the safe and sane fireworks because all the people buy are illegal fireworks. I have only ever seen officers on the fourth with news cameras following them handing out citations. I have someone on my street selling them as well as drugs and video and pictures do nothing to get the police to come out. Wouldn't the city stand to prosper financially if it enforced citations for illegal fireworks and street racing. And why isn't SAPD doing anything about the drug dealing happening around Washington Elementary and Memorial Park? Why can they get a warrant off neighborhood complaints but not clear video of drug transactions? 1 Salas, Diana From:Jessica Vargas <vargasjessica44@gmail.com> Sent:Tuesday, June 16, 2020 8:25 PM To:eComment Subject:Fireworks Enforce the fines on illegal fireworks or get rid of them all together. We call the hot line with exact address and nothing ever happens. Last year we had video of a dealer selling illegal fireworks from his house. They were carting them out like it was pizza. SAPD did nothing even with the proof on camera. They've destroyed our cars and nearly set our trees and yard on fire. Wouldn't it be to the advantage of the city to enforce the citations? Not only for fireworks but the street racing as well. I live in Sarmiento's ward, where nothing gets done. Prove me wrong and clean up this ward of drug dealers, and street racers. 1 Salas, Diana From:Anna Cervantes <amcervantes57@yahoo.com> Sent:Tuesday, June 16, 2020 10:05 PM To:eComment Subject:Illegal fireworks Illegal fireworks go on every single night through our city where it’s coming from I don’t know who’s doing it I don’t know but they’re so loud and I feel for the animals and for the elderly who have heart problems and that are sick this needs to come to a stop it is not the Fourth of July it’s at all times of the night and day please help Sent from Yahoo Mail for iPhone 1 Salas, Diana From:macias5 <macias5@sbcglobal.net> Sent:Tuesday, June 16, 2020 10:29 PM To:eComment Subject:Fireworks needs to stop Please we need to do something about these fireworks. Considering the amount of illegal fireworks that take place nightly in this city - there is no reason to continue to ignore the increase in nightly bombs that take place everywhere in our city. This causes anger and anxiety for all the hardworking folks that need to wake up early, seniors, disabled, special needs, all the animals and birds outside up in our trees. Think of all the beautiful parrots we have in Santa Ana that have to perch on trees at night while people are blasting these things below them everywhere on the streets & having to inhale the fumes all night. We can safely close our windows at night but this is so bad for the environment - think of our air! Please don't bring up the funds that go into schools from the safe & sane fireworks. There are other things our community can do instead to unite us...like a nice parade during the day where everyone can enjoy the day and get together. Unite Santa Ana instead of making it sound like a war zone at night. Now is the time considering people are also using fireworks to throw at police officers! There is too much lack of respect for this to continue in our city. This will make it easier for police officers to catch the people shooting off the illegal fireworks too. I always thought when people take advantage of a situation, it gets banned. Professional fireworks in large cities like ours should only be done at places where they can be contained like Disneyland or Angels Stadium...away from homes & wildlife. Please...there are too many of us throughout our city that want this to end already but don't think our voices will be heard or a change can be made. Let's turn things around for our city...one step at a time. Please ban all fireworks in Santa Ana. Kindly, Emma Medina-Sisk Washington Square Resident. 1 Salas, Diana From:Jody Magill <jody.magill@gmail.com> Sent:Wednesday, June 17, 2020 6:02 PM To:eComment Subject:Fireworks Please help us to protect our homes and our sanity by banning fireworks and enforcing no fireworks and no illegal fireworks. On a nightly basis we are bothered by fireworks that sound like bombs going off late into the night. It terrifies our animals and interferes with our sleep. On the 4th of July there is pandemonium in our neighbor with heavy smoke and fireworks set off everywhere in the street. You can’t drive safely around the neighborhood and there is constant worry about our house catching on fire. The next day there is trash everywhere and illegal bottle rockets in our yard and on our roof. Please help us ban fireworks! PLEASE seriously consider banning ALL fireworks in the city this year. If ever there was a time for it, it is now. There are many reasons to stop the fireworks, including: Protesters using them to try to target police; Gatherings of people can spread COVID-19 even more, and in Santa Ana it is already dangerously on the rise; Veterans with PTSD are traumatized by the loud noises; The loud bangs go on for hours and hours, and days and days, and it is intolerable; People with heart conditions are put at risk; People with asthma are put at risk; Autistic children and adults are traumatized by the loud noises; Babies are very scared by the loud noises; Animals of all kinds are panicked by fireworks. Dogs and cats have much better hearing than humans so fireworks terrify them. They are terrorized by the loud booms, and they escape from their homes and yards trying in vain to run away from the scary noises. They become disoriented, exhausted and dehydrated as they keep running for miles in a panic; Legal fireworks encourage the use of illegal ones, and also encourages people to shoot guns in the air, because it's easier to camouflage where they're coming from, and our police and fire departments are already overwhelmed; Fires increase, and bottle rockets end up on people's rooftops, putting everyone at risk; Burns and injuries increase; Hearing is damaged. As a city and as a society, we can do much better than this! Thank you for your consideration during this extraordinary time in our lives. The possibility of using silent fireworks exists, so that might be a viable alternative to alleviate some of the problems. 1 Sincerely, Donna Lewis Sent from my Samsung Galaxy smartphone. 2 Orozco, Norma From:Theresa Watson <verybreezy1@yahoo.com> Sent:Thursday, June 18, 2020 3:01 PM To:eComment Subject:ILLEGAL fireworks To the Honorable Mayor Pulido and council: Good evening to all. My name is Theresa and I’ve lived in Santa Ana since 1979. It’s been amazing to see the growth and changes in our community. However with all the positive, there is 1 negative issue that NEEDS to be resolved for many of us. The NEGATIVE impact ILLEGAL fireworks has had on our lives. Imagine sitting with your kids reading your evening story and an EXPLOSION goes off so loud it rattles the car alarms on your street. Your pets start to howl and run into the closets and under the bed whimpering because of the noises. I’ve been so startled that my heart started racing. WHO is doing this? This is happening every night in our park. It’s sporadic and has happened at all hours usually from 8 pm until 3:35 Am. Some of us can’t go to our community park to walk with our kids or pets because of this BOMBER. I know our SAPD does the best they can however this person is dangerous. They are a threat to US ALL in that : what if he chooses to throw that STICK of dynamite at a person... I’m afraid to go sit on my porch because of the bombings. Please catch this person. To me HE is a terrorist. EXPLOSIVES aren’t entertaining. The 4th of July is on a weekend. We must set an example by jailing and fining ANYONE who violates the law. Thank you for your time Sent from my iPhone 1 Orozco, Norma From:Adrienne Flynn <cairish1017@gmail.com> Sent:Thursday, June 18, 2020 4:11 PM To:eComment Subject:Fireworks I would appreciate anything done to reduce, restrict or, preferably, eliminate use of fireworks in Santa Ana. I have lived on Greenville & Macarthur for 32 years. For the past 6-8 weeks, the quantity of fireworks that are set off seems to have greatly increased compared to prior years as we approach the 4th of July. There is no pattern, but it has been occurring many times during week nights and occasionally during the day. Someone nearby frequently sets off fireworks that have one LOUD boom, in addition to others that hiss, pop & crackle. It sounds like they're close by, & coming from the large duplex/fourplex apartment complex located between Greenville & Fairview, & south of MacArthur. Note: For many years, the annual 4th of July & New Year's Eve fireworks sounds I hear seem to come from that same area, also. I'm accustomed to the fireworks around the 4th of July...a few weeks before & a few weeks after. However, this is becoming ridiculous & aggravating. MANY people are currently on the Next Door website, expressing their concerns as well. I empathize w/those who have frightened children & distressed animals on sedatives. Having been burned on the forehead & scalp by faulty fireworks, I am concerned about the dangers. What you have in a firework is an explosive missile. Get too close to it and it could burn you badly, disfigure you for life, or even kill you. Every year, millions of dollars of damage is done by stray fireworks setting fire to property. I appreciate your consideration. Adrienne Flynn 1 Orozco, Norma From:Yolanda Arceo <arceoyolanda@gmail.com> Sent:Thursday, June 18, 2020 7:15 PM To:eComment Subject:Re: Thank you for your email!
