HomeMy WebLinkAboutPOWERPOINT - 75B75BRECOVERY OF UNCOLLECTED COSTS FOR THE ABATEMENT OF DANGEROUS AND ABANDONED BUILDINGS July 21, 2020 RECOMMENDED ACTION75B2Adopt a resolution affirming the Fiscal Year 2019-2020 Dangerous and Abandoned Building Program Report.Authorize the transmittal of uncollected Dangerous and Abandoned Building charges to the office of Auditor-Controller, County of Orange. 75B3The property owners are afforded due process to abate the conditions.If the property owners do not abate the conditions after the requiredtimeframe, the City will abate the conditions through its contractors.Abatements are accomplished by boarding up the structures and insome cases by demolishing the buildings.Property owners were dully notified of outstanding cost throughout theprocess by PBA staff, Finance, and City Council hearing date.PROGRAM BACKGROUNDThe City’s Dangerous and Abandoned Building (DABS) Program is an effective tool to abate dangerous and abandoned structures. Each year, the City finds it necessary to seek legal recourse to recover the uncollected abatement costs.The most effective method of collection is to submit the abatement charges to the office of the County Auditor/ Controller in order that they may be placed as a lien on the property tax rolls.75B4RECOVERY OF ABATEMENT COSTSVIA PROPERTY LIENS This fiscal year’s 2019-2020 uncollected abatement costs for work performed on one parcel total $ 5,761.32Uncollected abatement charges must be submitted to the County Auditor/Controller. 75B5UNCOLLECTED ABATEMENT COSTS 75B6Questions ?
