My name is Doug Mangione and I am a representative of The
International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers in Orange County.
IBEW provides 2400 skilled and trained electrical workers to our
signatory electrical contractors. IBEW 441 was established in 1928 right
here in City Santa Ana and has been serving the orange county region
ever since. Our Apprenticeship program is also based here in the City of
Santa Ana under the auspices of Ranch Santiago Community College.
We currently provide training to over 400 apprentices, most of which
reside in Orange County and in Santa Ana.
I am writing in support of the commissions recommended actions
regarding Item 1, the project referred to as ONE BROADWAY PLAZA.
The city of Santa Ana is fast becoming a culturally diverse vibrant urban
setting and this project will be a major enhancement to what the city is
becoming. The city is embracing the future and this project is also
embracing the future. This will be an environmentally conscious state
of the art building, built to high LEED standards, using the latest energy
efficiency technologies.IBEW is in the forefront of teaching and
establishing the curriculums for those technologies.
I would also say that as we come out of this COVID 19 pandemic we are
going to have to get this economy rolling again and ONE BROADWAY
PLAZA is as shovel ready as any project to get started immediately.
I support your recommendation.
