Subject:City Council Meeting - Public Comment 7/20/21
Dear Mayor Sarmiento and council members,
My name is Yenny Bernal I will like to continue to share my support for further funding of the arts requested by
our ACC from the Revive Santa Ana government funding.
As the Artwalk Coordinator for DTI for the last 6 years, I am a testament of what happens when artists are
monetarily compensated for their work. It is no secret that a large reason for our city being so sought out by the
business and tourism and entertainment developers is due to the thriving arts culture that we local artists bring
to the community.
I am honored to be a small Santa Ana business owner in the creative arts field and want to see more Santaneros
prosper and grow professionally and personally.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
P.S.
Please follow our community group and page Equity>Division for further discussion. We would love to see
how you feel about the creative force that drives the Artists Village and Downtown areas.
Best Wishes,
Yenny Bernal

Re: Funding for Downtown Santa Ana Business District
Dear Mayor Sarmiento, Mayor Pro Tem Penaloza and Council Members Phan, Lopez, Bacerra,
Hernandez and Mendoza
Thank you for all your hard work and dedication to the City of Santa Ana. My name is Kim
Tapfer and I am an owner of the historic First National Bank Building at Fourth and Main in the
amazing historic district of downtown Santa Ana. I am also a Board Member of the Santa Ana
Business District. I am writing this letter in my personal capacity as a business owner in the
downtown.
I am writing to urge the City Council to please vote in favor of supporting parking structure
enhancements including adding security and murals as part of the Revive plan.
Also, both the downtown BIDS (Downtown Inc. and Santa Ana Business Council) are funded
primarily by the Merchant Fund and parking revenue. This funding was drastically cut due to
the COVID 19 pandemic. The downtown BIDs are both incredible organizations that, in my
view, go above and beyond in terms of the great good they do for the downtown community and
for Santa Ana overall. Every dollar poured into the BIDs is multiplied many times over by
numerous volunteer hours that are used to build community engagement as well as improve
and bring business to the downtown. It is imperative that this very modest funding be restored
by the City Council through the CARES Act dollars received by the City of Santa Ana.
Thank you again for the way you serve our great City of Santa Ana.
Sincerely,
Kim E. Tapfer
