Good afternoon,
I am writing as the Business Agent of Local Union 582 Plumbers and Steamfitters in the
City of Orange. We have a membership of over 1000 members of plumbers and steam
fitters in our local. We are asking you to approve the 3rd and Broadway project in the city
of Santa Ana. We know that this project will be good for the city of Santa Ana, with it bringing a 171 multi family housing units, a 75 room hotel that will be great for events at the Santa Bowl such a Mater Dei Football games with teams coming from other states and
Orange County School of the Arts also having many venues with people coming from out
of town and a mixed use retail shopping along with public parking.
With Mike Harrah/Caribou Industries as the developer, I believe they have the city of Santa
Ana in their best interest for this project. As part of the Building Trades, we are currently in
talks with Mr Harrah/Caribou for a Project labor Agreement that will provide this project
with the most skilled and safe workers in our county. This will help ensure this project will
come in on schedule and on budget. This project will create upon hundreds of high waged and high skilled construction jobs for
our members who line in this area, and that opens up a lot of other areas for our members
as they will be working closer to home giving them to spend more time with their families
and will allow more time for things like donating their time such as Little League, less time on the road helping reduce traffic.
With this PLA, you will also be putting some of our Veterans to work as we offer a helmets
to hardhats for Veterans of our Armed Services. The LA/OC Building Trades has a
program for getting our Veterans into our trades for a good career with great health care and retirement, all at no cost to the tax payer.
I thank you for your time reading this letter on this important matter and appreciate your
service to the City of Santa Ana. Again, I urge you to please approve this great project.
