Sunflower Ave #C-35, Santa Ana, CA 92704 (714) 541-5353 Tuesday, September 8, 2020 Honorable Mayor Miguel Pulido Honorable Mayor Pro Tem Juan Villegas Members of the City Council, Planning Commission, and City Planning Staff City of Santa Ana 20 Civic Center Plaza, Santa Ana, CA 92701 Re: 4th & Mortimer Project Honorable Mayor, members of the City Council and others: The stated vision of the Santa Ana Chamber of Commerce is to "To transform our community into a model of sustainable prosperity." Our mission is "To broker community solutions that create economic growth." Northgate’s proposed 4th & Mortimer development directly forwards both of these goals for our community. As the leading business development and business-supporting organization in Santa Ana, we support and encourage you to approve this proposed project. We are in a period of unprecedented economic turmoil arising out of the COVID-19 pandemic. Impact on businesses in our community has been widespread and devastating in many cases. In the midst of this period of economic uncertainty, it is welcome news that a strong organization like Northgate is willing to make such a substantial investment in our community. Northgate is a job provider (with six stores and many hundreds of employees), and they are a long-standing member of our community. We are pleased to see that they are willing to continue to invest in Santa Ana, not only with continued commitment to operating stores here but also with this new diversification into residential real estate. This project will provide hundreds of much-needed construction jobs in coming years and dozens of ongoing employment opportunities. It will put housing and incomes in the right place – downtown, on the streetcar line, where those residents can help support downtown businesses. We need investment in jobs, businesses, and housing to strengthen downtown. This project will generate a large private investment downtown at a time when it is badly needed. We hope you will approve this project for the good of our business and residential community. Sincerely, David Elliott President/CEO Santa Ana Chamber of Commerce
