Chairman Mark McLoughlin
Santa Ana Planning Commission
20 Civic Center Plaza
Santa Ana, CA 92701
RE: ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT REPORT NO. 2020-03 AND GENERAL PLAN
AMENDMENT NO. 2020-06 FOR THE COMPREHENSIVE UPDATE TO THE SANTA ANA
GENERAL PLAN
Dear Chair McLoughlin and Planning Commission Members,
The Building Industry Association of Southern California, Orange County Chapter
(BIAOC) is a leading advocate for thousands of building industry leaders who are
committed to a better future for California by building communities, creating jobs and
ensuring housing opportunities for everyone.
I write to you in support on item 2 on the November 9th Planning Commission agenda,
among other items, a resolution approving the General Plan Amendment.
As an organization of building and development professionals, we support the
thoughtful and transformative ideas detailed in this update, which will truly energize
and bring to life to the City of Santa Ana, and help fulfill the long-term vision of the
City.
Furthermore, Housing remains a critical issue in California with the situation growing
more serious with each passing day. Studies show that the State needs over 180,000
new units each year and at best we are producing 80,000. This has caused a cascading
spike in home prices across the region.
To make matters worse, the entire globe has been thrust into the middle of a
pandemic. Residents around the Country, especially in California, are being asked to
self-quarantine and by extension, limit their access to work. The economic impact of
this pandemic will take years to fully comprehend.
So, it is with great optimism we see the City of Santa Ana again leading the way
through this difficult time with a staff supported proposal that addresses many of the
ever-growing concerns mentioned above – most importantly, the housing crisis.
Thank you for your consideration.
Respectfully,
Steven C. LaMotte
