What is the name of the neighborhood where you reside?
Heninger Park
How do you describe your community to someone who hasn't visited? What streets/boundaries define
your community?
Heninger Park is a Historic Neighborhood with Specific District Zoning 40 (SD-40) and street boundaries are
First Street, S. Flower Street, S. Main Street, W. McFadden. Historic properties in Heninger Park are held
accountable to Heninger Park Architectural Design Guidelines in addition to Citywide Design Guidelines and
subject to a neighborhood review before permits can be pulled for proposed exterior changes, rehabilitation,
additions, etc.
What are the major culturaUrecreational/educationaUreligious institutions in your community?
Just on the other side, or across the street, from The Artist's Village in Downtown Santa Ana, Heninger Park is
known as Santa Ana's Craftsman Bungalow Neighborhood. A neighborhood of about 950 homes, several
churches and markets, restaurants and tennis courts. Location of Santa Ana High School, Heninger Elementary
School, Franklin Elementary School, Fire Station 975 and a Fire Museum. Heninger Park is the location of
several properties on the Santa Ana Register of Historic Properties including the historic Heninger House.
Beginning in 1907 Martin Heninger and his brother built up Heninger Park neighbors from what was once a
barley field. Martin and Mary Heninger lived in the Heninger House with their three daughters. Mrs. Heninger
had an electric car she parked on a concrete ribbon driveway, that can still be seen today, outside her kitchen
window.
Does your community have major geographical boundaries/features (freeways, parks, lakes, mountains)?
Heninger Park has NO parks, lakes or mountains and NO freeways!
Do you have concerns about the current boundaries of your Ward?
Heninger Park's east boundary is S. Main Street, also known as Historic Highway Old Route 101-A , and
Historic South Main Business District. Concerns related to Heninger Park's S. Main Street boundary include
include fate of Historic United Auto Building @ First & S.Main, fate of existing low rise low density residential
& retail/commercial buildings, lack of historic survey of existing structures, fate of S. Sycamore, (the
neighborhood street in Heninger Park behind S. Main Street), zoning existing and any future zoning changes,
and cut through vehicle traffic.
Other Comments:
However redistricting occurs, as Special District 40 (SD-40) Heninger Park will need to be kept intact. Wilshire
Square neighborhood shares Heninger Park's northern border, (McFadden) and with it's Historically Sensitive
status Wilshire Square & Heninger Park should remain in the same district, in my opinion.

In my opinion, DTSA had, has and is developing their unique niche. They can't be everything to
everybody - and they should not be left to try and stand alone! So here lies the opportunity for
developing a vision for surrounding supporting arms of community based hubs.
Residents and property owners in S. Main Street neighborhoods want to see the amenities (and more)
you have listed, including under 21 places to go, family friendly restaurants, free Wi-Fi hot spots,
homework zones, safe nighttime activities and walking, real ice cream parlors, coffee houses, galleries,
theater, satellite City library, adaptive reuse of existing buildings, beautification, street furniture,
unifying attractive & informative signage, easy to read parking identification and more.

Not unlike classic car nut Kevin Rafferty, now creative executive director at Imagineering, wVP he had
#* idea for a car land that became Cars Land.:) So lets put our heads & hearts together art s explore
what we could make of Historic Highway Old Route 101-A as a themed, family, neighborhood friendly
and FUN place, where all roads, streets and Historic Highways lead to DTSA - because we can and we
olroojy have our gorgeous Historic South Main Street BUSINESS DISTRICT archway!
