Subject: Public Hearing Item 42
I wish to express my support for the item with some philosophical concern of the source from which it arises.
California's SB9 aims to alleviate the housing crisis by removing barriers to the creation of new units on
currently existing properties zoned as Single Family Residence. While I applaud the efforts to remove lengthy
bureaucratic processes upon private individuals who are attempting to contribute to our societal goal of
affordable housing, I worry that both the local implementation of the state law, as well as the state law itself,
does nothing to create incentives for those who actually own large residential lots in Santa Ana to split
residential lots nor to develop new dwellings on/from their properties.
I also take concern that neither the local implementation nor the state law itself divests from the notion of single
use neighborhoods only exacerbating environmental destruction - people who live in dwellings and properties
subdivided as a result of SB9 will still need their own individual cars to get around town and the region at large.
Sincerely,
Nathaniel Greensides
Ward 5 Resident
