Euclid and Edinger How do you describe your community to someone who hasn’t visited? What streets/boundaries define your community? I would describe the community as residents who share a common language, where their kids attended Thomas Paine to graduation at La Quinta High School, people who care about there neighborhood and the nearby Mile Square park. What are the major cultural/recreational/educational/religious institutions in your community? The major cultural/recreational/educational/religious institutions in the community are the Saint Barbara Catholic Church a beautiful and very involved community, Bethel Baptist Church, and the Forty Marityrs Armenian Apostolic Church. The major recreational area is definitely Mile Square Park which is walking distance from the surrounding area. Mile Square Park is both safe and a fantastic place to build family memories. Does your community have major geographical boundaries/features (freeways, parks, lakes, mountains)? The major geographical boundary/feature is Mile Square Park. The park is a major reason why many people have chosen to purchase and live in the area. It has walking trails, play grounds, running and exercise stations, plenty of bike riding space, tennis, baseball, archery, grills and picnic locations, bathrooms, and yearly events such as the fishing derby and Lunar New Year celebration. It should be noted, residents don't want any more 1 buildings, structures, or statues. By definition, a park should mainly have grass and large shade trees. Sports are great for a community, but a limited number of people utilize the space taken up by sports areas such as a golf course, baseball diamonds, basketball, and tennis courts. Do you have concerns about the current boundaries of your Ward? It just so happens I live in Ward 1, very close to the furthest boundary-line on the west-side of Santa Ana. To be specific, the neighborhood square is defined by the corner of Edinger/Euclid to Brookhurst/Bolsa and is divided between cities Santa Ana and Fountain Valley. Where approximately 1/3rd of the residents have a Santa Ana address. All residents want Santa Ana to improve and have concerns with how Santa Ana compares with other OC cities. Our current district boundaries and Wards should represent the people that reside in Santa Ana. With changes to our district boundaries our residents are better served by who they vote for to represent them and change Santa Ana to make it the most desired place to live out of the OC neighboring cities. Other Comments: I have attached an image of a map I created called "A Balanced Approach" drawn and submitted on the website (https://districtr.org/plan/96937?event=santa_ana). The map does not drastically change any of the Wards and was able to keep the population deviation at 1.45% where each Ward is ~52,000 residents. In addition, attention was closely paid to neighborhoods with similar demographic, economic, and cultural groups live. File upload  a-balanced-approach.png 707.43 KB 2
