Subject: Agenda Item 13 for City Council Meeting on November 1, 2022
Categories: Correspondence
Dear City Council,
I am concerned that the City does not have any measures in place to ensure that our most vulnerable residents in
the city may continue to participate in civic engagement virtually after the state of emergency is lifted in
California. This item has arisen every 30 days since the statewide measures were implemented as an emergency
measure to reduce the spread of the COVID-19 virus in 2020. However, the state government has announced its
intent to end the state of emergency in the early part of 2023. I urge the council to adopt a permanent ordinance
allowing for the Council and any other legislative body of the City to utilize remote teleconferencing for all
meetings open to the general public. The pandemic may end, but many hard working families in our city raising
kids, or those who are unable to transport themselves to Civic Center or any other physical meeting spaces
utilized for meetings open to the public, deserve the ability to participate civically in any and all forms
available.
Sincerely,
Nathaniel Greensides
Ward 5 Resident
