I would like to discuss why the the shelter is only open for adoption through an appointment based system and all the misinformation around surrounding the appointment based model. We have always been factual in posting about OC Animal Care as the community has been reading our posts since 2012. One thing we do know and understand is the policies and procedures at OC Animal Care, who, how and why are implementing these procedures, Logan vs OC Animal Care forced OC Animal Care to change a number or rewrite their numerous policies. The current polices and procedures currently implemented at OC Animal Care are what is recommended by the big National Organizations that animal shelters all across the nation are implementing and utilizing, this is not just happening at OC Animal Care, this is happening at tax payer funded municipal funded shelters all across the nation. The big National Animal Welfare Organizations like Best Friends is peddling bad advice to animal shelters telling animal shelters to leave animals, dogs and cats on the street and to close their doors to the general public. This is where OC Animal Care is getting their updated policies and procedures from. Santa Ana does not need to spend any more money for animal services, Santa Ana needs to tell OC Animal Care to do the job that Santa Ana is paying OC Animal Care to do and service the animals from Santa Ana that come into OC Animal Care, which includes spay and neuter. I am the owner of Alta Baja Market, I have done large-scale art/craft markets in our downtown and before that, I helped to start the first farmers' market for this city. I am writing because it has come to my attention that the Tianguis market is wanting to continue to close down French weekly for its "farmers' market". I'm writing as a downtown business owner who has seen how continued street closures over the past couple of years have hurt businesses who were just coming back from the pandemic. - is this really worth closing down a street on a weekly basis? Downtown already has suffered from street closures and we continue to endure disruption. Many businesses have closed over the past months, and continued street closures do nothing to help them. - Neither myself nor my neighbors receive any added value of business from this event. My customers who have visited this event come back saying that it's not a farmers market and are disappointed. There are many open spaces in the city that can host Tianguis on a weekly basis and not impact businesses.
