Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PEAS)
im PFAS used in wide range of industries and
consumer products
im Contamination caused by chemical manufacturers
im Detected primarily via Santa Ana River flows from
upstream wastewater dischargers
im OCWD launched nation's largest pilot program to
test effective treatment techniques
im State lowered advisory Response Levels in 2020,
causing dozens of local wells to be taken offline
im In March 2023, U.S. EPA proposed National Primary

Year after year, the City has earned international recognition for our award
winning tap water. The City meets and exceeds California water quality
requirements.
Berkeley Springs International Water Tasting Contest since 2011
Annual water tasting competition that welcomes competitors from
more than a dozen countries
Largest and longest running water tasting competition in the world
Our City's water placed in the top 5 for the "Best Municipal Water in the
USA" many times:

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the State of California are
working on establishing Maximum Contaminant Levels (MCLs) for PFAS
contaminants. It is anticipated these to be in effect by the first quarter of 2024
The City will potentially be impacted further depending on the final MCLs
adopted, additional testing mandates, and results from the wells
Well supply water loss due to PFAS, will be made up by imported water from
Metropolitan Water District (MWD)
