CERTAIN SECTIONS OF TME UNIFORM
BUILDING CODE, 1955 EDITION
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. That those sections of the Uniform ~uilding Code,
1955 Edition, adopted by Ordinance No. NS-147al~$ hereby amended in
those particulars only as next heretnbelow set out.
(a) The first paragraph of subdivision (c) of Section 301 is here-
by amended Ko read as follows:

Plans and SDecifications. With each application
for a building permit, and when required by the
Building Official for enforcement of any pro-
visions of this Code, two sets of plans and
specifications shall be submitted. The Building
Official may require Plans and Specifications to
be prepared and designed by an engineer or
architect licensed by the State to practice as
such."
(b) Paragraph 9 of Section 402 is hereby amended to read as follows:
(c)
"ASSEMBLY BUILDING is a building used, in whole or
in part, for the gaShering together of ~rsons for
such purposes as deliberation, worship, entertair~ment,
amusement, or awaiting transportation and restaurants
with an occupant load over 200."
Exception~l of SectiOn 507 is hereby amended to read as follows:
EXCEPTIONS: 1.
~Towers, spires and steeples, erected or a part of
a building and not used for habitation or storage,
are limited as to height only by structural design
if completely of'uncombusti~le materials, or may
extend not to exceed twenty feet (20') above the
height limit in Table No. 5D if of combustible
materials. ~
(d) Division 2 of Section ll01 is hereby amended to read as follows:
"DIVISION 2. Wholesale and retail stores, office
buildings, restaurants, undertaking parlors,
printing plants, municipal police and fire stations,
factories and workshops using materials not highly
flammable or combustible, storage and sales rooms
for combustible goods, paint stores without bulk
handling. (See Section 402 under assembly buildin~s
for a definition of restaurants with an occupant
load over 200).
(e) That the second paragraph, subdivision (a) of Section 1405 is
hereby amended to read as follows:
"The window area in bathrooms, water-closet compartments,
and other similar rooms shall be not less than three
square feet (3 sq. ft.), and may open on a vent shaft
which has a least dimension open and unobstructed to
the sky of not less than three feet (3'). In lieu
of the foregoing requirement a mechanical ventilation
system capable of producing a change of air every five

minutes and connected directly to the outside may
be installed."
(f) That subdivision (b) of Section 3302 is hereby amended to read
as follows:
(b) Number of Exits. Buildings, or portions thereof,
h~ving an occupant load of more than l0 shall have
not less than two exes.
Buildings, or portions thereo~ having an occupant
load of 500 to 999 shall have not less than three
exits.
Building~ or portions thereof, having an occupant
load of 1000 or more shall have not less than
four exits.
Basements or cellars used for other than service
of the building, shall have not less than two
exits."
(g) Th~subdivision (h) of Section 3305 is hereby amended to read
as follows:
(h~ Exterior Stairways. Every opening in the
exterior wall of a building served by an
exterior stai~vay used as a required exit shall
be protected by an automatically closing Class
"E" or "F" fire door or window if the opsning
is within !~ tex~y feet (fO') of the stairway.
~CEPT!ON: Openings above or level with the
highest portion of the stairway may be un-
protected if not nearer than ten feet (10')
to the stairway. Group H and I Occupancies
not more than two (2) stor~s in height need
not have protected openings.
(h) That subsection i of Section 3801 is hereby amended to read as
follows:
"1. In every story, basement or cellar of a building
when the floor area exceeds fifteen hundred square
feet (1500 sq. ft.) and there is not provided at
least twenty square feet (20 sq. ft.) of opening in
each fifty lineal feet (50 lin. Ft.) or fraction
thereof of exterior wall in the story, basoment or
cellar on at leas$ one side of the.building~
~enings shall have a minimum dimension of ~ot less
than thirty inches (30")."
SECTION 2. The Clerk of the Council shall certify to the
pass,age of this Ordinance and shall cause the same to be published with-
in 15 days after its adop~ion~
This Ordinance shall take effect 30 days from and after the date of its
adoption.

Ordinance was regularly introduced at the regular meeting of said
Council held on the 18th day of Narch , 19~?, and was again
considered by said Council at its regular meeting held on the 1st .day
of April , 1957 and was at said meeting regularly passed
and adopted by said Council by the following vote, to - wit;
