CODE TO REQUIRE ENCLOSURES AROUND SWi~MING POOLS
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. That the Santa Ana N~nicipal Code is hereby amend-
ed by adding a new Section to Chapter 8 of Article III thereof in
words and figures as follows:
"SECTION 3816. Enclosure of Swimming Pool Required.
Ewer,y outdoor swimming pool om family pool shall be completely
surrounded by a fence or wall not less than Five (5) feet in
height which shall be so constz~cted as not to have openings,
holes or gaps larger than fou~ (4) inches in any one dimension,
either horizontally or vertically; EXCEPT THAT doors and gates
a~e permitted to exist in said fence or wall. A dwelling house
or accessory building may be used am part of such enclosure.
All gates and doors opening through such enclosure shall be
equipped with a self-c.losing and self-latching device capable of
keeping the door or gate securely closed and latched at all times
when not in actual use; EXCEPT THAT any doom in a dwelling house
which fo~ms a part of the enclosUre need not be so eq~ lpped.
No person shall hereafter construct any swimming pool;or fam-
ily pool other than an indoom swimming pool, w~A ch is not enclosed
as provided for in this Section. No person owning /and upon
which a swimming pool exists at the effective date of this Ordin-
ance shall maintain the same without an enclosure that complies
with the requimements of this Section after the ninetieth (90th)
day following the effective date of this Ordinance."
SECTION 2. This Ordinance shall take effect 30 days from and
after the date of its adoption.
