OF ARTICLE IX OF THE SANTA ANA MUNICIPAL CODE
TO AMEND THE LM (LIMITED MANUFACTURING) DISTRICT
REGULATIONS
WHEREAS, after recommendation of the Planning Commission, the
City Council, after public hearing on notice, has determined that
the public necessity, convenience and general welfare require the
following amendments to those sections of the Zoning Ordinance setting
forth the provisions of the LM (Limited Manufacturing) District.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA DOES
ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1: That Sections 9230.320 through 9230.327, both
inclusive, of the Santa Ana Municipal Code are hereby amended to read
as follows:
Section 9230.320. LM (Limited Manufacturinq District).
Section 9230.321. Purpose.
The purpose of the I~! District is to provide for orderly, spacious,
and landscaped industrial developments free of obnoxious uses.
Section 9230.322. Uses Permitted.
(a) Any use unconditionally permitted in the MI District.
(b) Any professional use unconditionally permitted in the
P District.
(c) Any other use which, in the opinion of the Planning
Commission, will prove compatible with the aforementioned permitted
uses.
Section 9230.323. Operational Standards.
(a) Any activity permitted in this District shall be conducted
in a manner creating no nuisance to adjacent property, such as, but
not limited to, vibration, sound, electro-mechanical disturbance
and radiation, electro-magnetic distu=bance, radiation, air or water
pollution, dust, emission of odorous, toxic or noxious matter. Ail
lighting is to be shielded and confined within property lines.
(b) Ail materials, supplies, products, and equipment stored
outside of a building shall be completely screened from the view of
any street or adjacent properties.
(c) All loading shall be visually screened from primary streets.
On other than primary streets streetside loading shall be allowed
providing the loading dock ~ set back a minim~ of 70 feet from the
street right of way line.
(d) Railroad trackage shall be allowed on any side but the
street side of a building. If railroad trackage and loading are
located other than at the rear of a building area, complete screening
from the street shall be provided.
(e) Signs.
(1) Signs may be lighted, but no signs or any other contrivance
shall be devised or constructed so as to rotate, gyrate,
blink or move in any animated fashion.
(2) Signs shall be restricted to advertising only the person,
firm, c~upany or corporation operating the use conducted
on the site or the products produced or sold thereon.
(3)
A wall sign with individual letters applied directly
shall be measured by drawing a rectangular line around
the outside of the lettering and/or the pictorial symbol
and calculating the area enclosed by such line.

(4) Signs shall not be permitted to extend above the top of
the building to which they are affixed and no sign shall
be placed on the roof of any building.
(5) Only one single faced or double faced sign shall be
permitted on each site. No sign shall exceed one square
foot in area for each 600 square feet of the site. Such
sign shall not exceed 200 square feet for each face of
the sign, with the exception of gas station signs which
will be allowed a maximum size of 125 square feet for
any one sign face and a composite total of 150 square
feet for all gas station signs. An additional 20 square
feet for each business conducted on the site will be
permitted. An additional sign advertising sale, lease,
or hire of the site or building shall be permitted but
shall not exceed 100 square feet.
(6) Ground signs shall not exceed 12 feet in height, with
the exception of gas station signs which may have a
maximum of 25 feet. In no case shall a sign interfere
with or impede the visibility of pedestrians and
motorists.
(f) There shall be erected and maintained a solid wall not less
than 8 feet in height along the rear or side lot line where said rear
or side lot line abuts property situated in any R District.
(g) Public utility electric distribution and transmission sub-
stations shall be enclosed within a solid wall or chain link fence
not less than 6 feet in height.
(h) Any persons building, erecting, altering, or replacing any
article, machine, equipment, or other contrivance, the use of which
may cause the issuance of air contaminents, shall present to the
Planning Department, prior to the issuance of a building permit, a
written statement from the Office of the Air Pollution Control
Officer of the Air Pollution Control District of Orange County
confirming that said use complies with the current regulations of
the Air Pollution Control District.
(i) All production activities shall be visually screened from
the street and adjacent properties.
Section 9230.324. Building HeiGht.
NO building shall exceed in height the equivalent of one-half the
distance from the building to the nearest residential zone.
Section 9230.325. Bui~dinq Site Area.
Each building site shall contain not less than fifteen thousand
(15,000) square feet and shall have not less than one hundred (100)
feet of frontage on a public street, measured at the setback line.

Section 9230.32~. Required Yards.
(a) Front Yards.

(2) Where such yards front upon primary streets, the entire
depth shall be landscaped, with the exception of driveways
and walks bisecting the landscaped area.
(3) Where such yards front upon streets other than primary
streets, the front 10 feet shall be landscaped. %~e rear
20 feet shall be either landscaped or paved and may be
used for parking.
Side Yards.
There shall be a side yard of not less than 10 feet. ~fhe
side yard shall be landscaped unless greened from streets
and adjacent properties or used for improved driveway or
walkways.
Distance between buildings.
There shall be not less than 15 feet distance between any
two buildings.
Section 9230.327. off-Street Parkinq.
Off-street parking shall be provided in the manner and number
prescribed by Part 4 of this Chapter.
SECTION 2: That Section 9230.328 of the Santa Aha Municipal
Code is hereby repealed.
SECTION 3: That this Ordinance shall take effect thirty days
from and after the date of its adoption.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Santa
Ana at its regular meeting held on the 15th day of February, 1955.
