RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA AMA
REQUESTING THE ORANGE COUNTY FLOOD CONTROL DISTRICT TO
DO CERTAIN WORK TO PREVENT OR MINIMIZE FLOOD DAMAGE
~i~EAS, the Orange County Flood Control District was heretofore
created for the primary purpose of constructing works to prevent or
minimize flood damage and to control flood waters;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the Council of the City
of Santa Ana hereby requests the Board of Directors of the Orange
County Flood Control District to construct and improve flood con-
trol works in and about the City of Santa Ana, to control flood
damage from surface waters as follows:
1.~ Flood control works to collect and transport surface
waters originating south of Fairhaven Avenue and somewhat west of
Tustin Avenue which flow westerly and southerly to Santa Clara Ave-
nue, Grand Avenue, Seventeenth Street~ght Street, .Nabm~-y Street,
and First Street and which run south from First Street on Lyon and
McClay Streets and from Grand Avenue and First Street south and west
to Chestnut and Orange Avenues and thence south to Delhi Road and a
portion of which water collects north of Delhi Road and east of the
Southern Pacific tracks at Delhi Road. Most of the water herein re-
ferred to comes from County territory and causes flood conditions in
City areas.
2. Improve and enlarge the Delhi Drainage Ditch south of
Santa Ana which ditch joins the flood control ditch near Sunflower
and Bristol or otherwise construct flood control works for the pro-
tection of farm lands southwest of Santa Ana where flood conditions
exist with considerable regularity. A large part of the water caus-
ing this flooding does originate inside the City of Santa Ana.
3. Construct a levy or dyke along the southeasterly bank
of the Santa Ana River from Seventeenth Street northerly to Santiago
Creek and from Santiago Creek northerly to Garden Grove Boulevard.
For the carrying out of this project the City is willing to furnish,
to the Orange County Flood Control District, the broken cement, rock,
and mortar rubble originating within the City.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That the City Clerk is hereby di-
rected to furnish two certified copies of this Resolution to the
Board of Supervisors of Orange County as the Board of Directors of
the Orange County Flood Control District.
