~SULT OF THE C.~I~VASS 0F ELECTION RETURNS OF THE
G~ERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION HELD IN THE CITY OF
SANTA ANA, CALIFORNIA ON APRIL 9TH, 1957.
WHEREAS, the City Council, by Ordinance NS-234 duly called
and provided for the holding of a General ~[unicipal Election to
fill offices a~ud submit to the voters two propositions, to be held
in the City of Santa Ana on April 9, 1957; and
WBIEREAS, notice of said election was duly and regularly given
in time, for~ and manner as provided by law, and said election was
on said date duly held at the polling places designated and the
votes cast thereat were canvassed and the returns thereof made at
the time and in the manner a~ d form provided by law; and
WHEREAS, on this 16th day of April, 1957, said City Co'oncil
has duly assembled at its usual place of meeting and has canvassed
the returns of said election;
NOW, THE?J~FORE, the City Council of the City of Santa Aha
DOES HEREBY RESOLVE, DETER~iIN~. AND ORDER as follows:
That said General J~unicipal Election was, in all respects,
duly held on April 9, 1957, and the votes cast thereat were duly
and regularly canvassed and the returns thereof made at the time and
in the form and manner required by law.
That the absent voter ballots have been duly canvassed and
counted as required by law, and the result of such count is herein-
after stated. That this City Council has duly canvassed the returns
of said election and from said returns it appears, and this City
Council finds, that the total number of votes cast in each precinct
for each person and for and against said two propositions, the num-
ber of votes given in the City to each person, and for and against
each proposition, the whole number of votes cast in the City, and
the total number of absentee votes cast in said City, and in consol-
idated voting precinct number 58, which consisted of those p~tions
of the Santa Ana School District, the Santa Ana High School District,
and Santa Aha Junior College District lying outside the City of
Santa Aha, are as follows:

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, THEREFORE: That at said General Muni-
cipal Election ALLEN (AL) HALL, residing in Ward One, STANLEY C.
GOULD, JR., residing in ¥;ard Three, and ROYAL E. HUBBARD, residing
in Ward Five, were elected to the office of member of the City Council
for a te~n of four years; and
TItAT WILBUR BARR, ALEXA~DER J. (AL) MILLER and HERBERT T.
STROSCHEIN were elected to the office of member of the Board of
Education for the terms of four years and CHARLOTTE M. CHENEY was
elected to the office of member of the Board of Education for the
teen of two years; and
That the proposition to amend Section of the Cha~ter of
the City of Santa Ana to provide that each member of the City Council
should receive compensation for his services in the amount of $125.00
monthly, was defeated by a majority of the voters voting thereon;
and that the proposition to amend Sections 101.1, 101.2 and 401.1 to
fix the first Tuesday in April of each odd-numbered year for the
holding of General Municipal Elections, and making other minor
changes in the language of said S'~etions, was approved by more than
two-thirds of the voters voting thereon.
PASSED AND ADOPT~.n by the City Council of the City of S~nta
Ana at an adjourned regular meeting of said City Council held on
the 16th day of April, 1957,
