~st~ction for the training of new peace officers, necessitated by
the grow~ of population in Orate Cowry, and the ret~in~ and
~ont~ued e~cation of the older peace officers se~ing the people
of this County, so ~at today they are operati~ a r~ge facility
~d ~all a~$ tra~ing school of rec~ized excellence, which ia
used by most of ~e peace officer o~izations of s~d Cowry, and
is available to ~d ~ed by m~y members of the general public, ~d
are operati~ a s~ll rifle ~ge available for use without charge
to boys g~ups under supe~ision of o~petent ~st~cto~; ~d
~A~, ~hey arm now re. laxly offering training courses in
police work with competent inst~cto~a, ~ m~y cases being fu~iahed
by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, which said courses a~ con-
st~tly filled by m~ enrollment with the peace officers of this
Oo~ty; ~d
~E~S, all of these things ~ve been done without ~e expend-
i~u~ of t~ money by this vol~teer gr~oup under the guid~ee of a
few dedicated ~aders, and with the help of ~y will~g workers, ~
~ endeavor to ~ve the qu~ ity of the so.vice and ~o o~a~e a
pride of ocoupa$ion whi~ has be~ so well done ~d is so outs~ding
a perforce that ~eoognition has come to said Associa~ion by ~ason
of said Association having been selected by the Award Co~lttee of
DianeYl~d, ~ich said Co~ittee has Just mdc an award to said
Associatlom for outst~d~g co~ity se~ioe, ~d which said awa~
carx'iee a cash grant fo~ the furtherance of the fine work ~f this
Association in the amount of $1500.00, and which said award is one
of only three such awards made outside of the City of Anaheim.
NOW, T~_E~FORE, BE IT HESOLVED, that the City Oouncil of the
City of Santa Ana, on the occasion of ~-enewing its contract with the
Orange County Peace Officer's Association, for the continued train-
ing of its Police Department personnel, t~ es this occasion and
adopts this Hesolution to congratulate, commend, and encourage said
Association, those few outstanding leaders who have consistently
given of their time and interest throughout many years to create
this Training Center, and those many willing helpers who have from
time to time Joined in and contributed to this long-term effort,
not only for their outstanding accomplishment, but for their contin-
ued interest, drive and insistence on improvement that is making the
Orange County Peace Officers Training Center a better facility, with
a better so~ool, to the end that it may produae better officers; and
said City Council earnestly cong~-atulates the Association and all of
its members on winning the Disneyland Award for outstanding commun-
ity service.
