HomeMy WebLinkAbout58-193RESOLUTION N0.58-193 ORDERING THAT PROPOSITION BE SUB- ~!~ITTED TO THE E~------C~RS OF THE CI TY AT A SPECIAL ~iUNICIPAL ELECTION TO BE CALLED FOR SAID PROPOSITION A/~D TO BE HELD ON NOVE~BER 4TH, 1958, TO A~,~ND SECTION 402 OF THE CHARTER OF THE CITY 02' SAif£A ANA TO INCREASE fTHE BALARY OF COUNCIL- ~{EN FR0~,~ ~i75.00 TO ~125.00 PER NONTH '~IEREAS, the size of the City of Sa~ ta Ana has considerably increased and t~e problems confronting the City Government have be- come more numerous and more complex ~ th each passing month, so that the demands upon the time of the members of the City Council and the requirements of attendance at meetings of various sorts have nearly doubled in the past two years, requiring expenditures for transporta- tion and for other things which must be paid by the Council members from their.a~funds so t~at the exist~nag salar]r~ of ~75.00 per month is no longer adequate, sufficient or, in fact, any compensation for the services now rendered by Councilmen; NOW, ~EREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: %/act the City Council on its own motion hereby authorizes mud directs that a proposition be sub- mitted to ~ne electors of the City proposing amendment of Section 40a of the Charter of the City of Santa Ana to provide a monthly compensa- tion of each member of the City Council of ~12~.00 instead of the present ~$7~.00, and that said section be amended so that the ssuue will read as follows: "Section 40a. CITY COLr~CIL: CO~PENSATION OF ~'~ERS. Each member of the City Council shall receive as compen- sation for his services as such a monthly salary in the suz~ of One Hundred Twenty-~ive Dollars (~;12~.00 . Further, ) each member of the City Council shall receive reimburse- ~aent for required travel and other expenses while on offi- cial business outside the City as authorized and approved by the City Council. Absence of a member of the City Council from all regular and special n~etings of the City Council during any calendar month shall render him ineligible to receive t~%e monthly salary for such a calendar month unless by permission of the City Council expressed in its official minutes." BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That the proposition to be placed upon the ballot for submission to the ~lectors of the City be in the words and figures as follows: Shall the Charter of the City of sacra Ana be ) amended by amending Section 402 thereof to pro-) YES vide tl~at each member of the City Council shall) receive as compensation for his services a ) monthly salary in the sum of ~[;12~.007 ) NO The Clerk of the Council is hereby directed to print the proposed a~mendment to the Charter of the City of Santa Aua once in a newspaper of general circulation in the City, and in all the editions thereof issued d~ring the day of publication, not less th~a 4.0 days nor more than 60 days before said election; to publish notice inviting arguments against said proposition; to cause said a~endment to be printed in t~pe of riot le ss th~a 10-point together with arguments for and against said proposition, and cause a copy thereof enclosed in an envelope wit]~ sample ballot to be mailed to each Voter; to publish a ?~otice of "i~easure To Be Voted On" and to publish notice that a copy of said proposed ~endment may be had by registered electors on ~p~ plics, tion thereof, all as required by law. BE IT ?UR'i~ER RESOLVED: That the Board of Supervisors of the County of Orsa ge be and it is hereby requested to grant permission for, and to order, consolidation of the Special Election to be called and held in the ~ity of Ssa ta Ana on ~ovember 4, i 9~8, with the State- wide general election to be held on said date. Said Board of Super- visors is hereby autho~ized to canvas the returns of said Special Election which it is hereby requested to consolidate with said State- wide general election and said elections shall be held in all re- soects as if there were only one election, and only one form of ballot shall be used.
