COUNCIL OF C~u~CHES OF SANTA ANA, CALIFORNIA
WHEREAS, The Council of Churches of Santa Ana, California, in
response to a request from the City Council of Santa Aha, has since
September, 1957 cooperated with said City Council in the scheduling
of a Minister of the Gospel for each of the regular meetings of said
City Council and in making available to said City Council, the offi-
cers and employees of the City of Santa Ana, and the citizens in
attendance at said regular meetings, a minister to pronounce an in-
vocation as a regular part of the opening ceremonies at each such
regular meeting, without any limitation as to denomination;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the City Council of the
City of Santa Ana hereby expresses its deep appreciation to The
Council of Churches of the City of Santa Aha for its cooperation
and continued diligence to insure that regular meetings of said
City Council might be opened with a proper prayer of invocation
for guidance and understanding~ and to the individuals who have
given of their time se willingly to insure that this practice,
started nearly two years ago, could be carried on throughout said
period.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That all mortals too easily forget
their relationship with and dependence upon the Deity, and that
the same might be expressed and guidance petitioned for on a wholly
non-denominational basis, at a civil municipal gathering, on a
regular and recurring basis, is a not negligible accomplishment and
one which said Council of Churches, and the individual members who
participated in these openings, should be thanked for, and is one
of which they can be Justly proud as a typically American expression
of a belief in God.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That the Clerk of the Council is
instructed to furnish three certified copies of this Resolution
to ~he Council of Churches of the City of Sauta Aha.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Santa
Ana at its regular meeting, opened by invocation given by Reverend
Roy D. Ford of the First Nethodist Church, held on the 17th day of
August, 1959.
