RESOLUTION NO. 59-284 FAVORING THE LOCATION OF A BRANCH
OF THE UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA IN ORANGE COUNTY
WHEREAS, the population of Southern California is increasing
at an unprecedented rate, and the population center of the Los
Angeles metropolitan complex is rapidly shifting to the south of
the City of Los Angeles so that the center of this population com-
plex will be located in the southeast part of Santa Aha, California
before the year 2000; and
WHEREAS, Orange County presently affords areas ideally suited
to the location of a University Branch, properly planned for the
future rather than a temporary, short-term, stop-gap facility, be-
cause of the availability of large acreage and adequate area for
future expansion and continued operation;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the City Council of the
City of Santa Ana hereby respectfully urges the Regents of the
University of California to select a site for a Branch University
in the County of Orange, and confidently declares that this County
offers advantages as a site location which cannot elsewhere be
equaled.
