HomeMy WebLinkAbout64-053RESOLUTION 64-53 EXPRESSING OPPOSITION TO THE PACIFIC SOUTHWEST WATER PLAN, AS MODIFIED WHEREAS, this City Council firmly believes that the most serious problem facing the vast population in Southern California is the continuing threat of water shortage and that its first duty to the citizens of its City is to maintain a supply of potable water for their use. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA: That they oppose the present Pacific Southwest Water Plan offered and modified by Secretary of the Interior Udall in that it includes in part the discontinuance of a portion of the structures of the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California. The City of Santa Ana was one of the original contracting cities in the formation of said Metropolitan Water District and has paid taxes continuously for the construction and operation of said District's water works system, together with other taxpayers in the area has constructed, improved and extended said system entirely from funds supplied by the users thereof and should now have a vested right in the continuation of said system and the guaranteed supplies from the Colorado River. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That all portions of said Pacific Southwest Water Plan other than those which contemplate the surrendering of rights in the Colorado River or the abandonment of any aqueduct lines or portions of Metropolitan's system should proceed, but any studies or any action should preserve the present water entitlement and the investment of the cities of Southern California in the system they have build with their own funds.
