HomeMy WebLinkAbout64-154RESOLUTION 64-154 COMMENDING ROBERT WEBSTER FOR WINNING THE GOLD MEDAL FOR PLATFORM DIVING IN TOKYO IN 1964 WHEREAS, ROBERT "BOB" WEBSTER of Santa Ana, California, has proven himself to be a superb athlete by long years of continuous practice to win the Platform Diving event in R~e,Italy, in the 1960 Olympics; and WHEREAS, he was again on our team in the 1964 Olympics in Tokyo, Japan, but there had the misfortune to be in sixth place before the final event; and WHEREAS, under tremendous emotional pressure that must have existed as he entered this event, he performed three nearly perfect dives to win the first place Gold Medal with 148.58 points, crowding his closest contender in second place with 147.54 points. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That we highly com, mend this young Santa Aha athlete and call attention to the citizens of his city, Santa Aha, California, that one of our own came from behind to win first place again this year in Platform Diving, again proving beyond doubt that the only failure one needs to be ashamed of is the failure to try; and he not only did try, but tried superbly and won. PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Santa Aha at its regular meeting held on the 19th day of October, 1964.
