HomeMy WebLinkAbout62-030RESOLUTION NO. 62-30 EXPRESSING THE OPPOSITION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA, CALIFORNIA, TO UNITED STATES SENATE BILL 1633 CREATING A DEPARTMENT OF URBAN AFFAIRS AND HOUSING WHEREAS, there has been much discussion about the creation of a new Department of Urban Affairs and Housing and the creation of a new Cabinet position for the Department Head of this Department; and WHEREAS, in the furtherance thereof United States Senate Bill 1633 is reported to have been introduced to create such Depart- ment and to implement the same. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the City Council of the City of Santa Aha, after study, has determined that the need for such a department, or even for the Cabinet position, does not exist; that Senate Bill 1633 can only result in the needless creation of many additional civil service positions and the appropriation and dis- bursement of public funds which, in most cases, are unnecessary, without in any way additionally assisting areas of real need, and in the weakening of local government by the imposition of additional federal controls baited with the feedback of federal funds in a time of rising taxes and deficit spending, and for these reasons this Council expresses its opposition to Senate Bill 1633 and urges a vote against the same.
