PUBLIC UTILITIES COFLMISSION TO CONTINUE UNCHANGED
ITS POLICY OF ASSESSING COSTS FOR ¥~INTAINING AND
OPERATING RAILROAD CROSSING PROTECTIVE DEVICES
AGAINST THE RAILROAD COMPANIES INVOLlrED
WHEREAS, there is information of a present attempt to shift to local governmental agencies maintenance and
operating costs of protective devices at street-railroad intersections; a cost traditionally borne by the railroad
companies; and
WHEREAS, the financial problems of the cities in rapidly growing California have become increasingly acute, and
every attempt to increasingly burden the local budget should be opposed; and
WHEREAS. the equities of the situation should indicate that local governments are bearing a presently heavy
share of the total crossing construction and protection costs.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Santa Aha that it urgently requests the
Public Utilities Commission of the State of California to continue unchanged the assessment of maintenance costs of
railroad crossing protective devices against the railroad company involved in each case.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That a Certified Copy of this Resolution be forwarded to the Public Utilities Commiss-
ion to the attention of the President thereof, to the Santa Aha ghamber of Commerce a~nd to the Orange County
Associated Chamber of Commerce with requests for support from said organizations.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Santa Aha at its regular meeting held on the 5th day of
March, 1962.
