On motion of Trustee McBride, seconded by Jerome and carried, the bid
were referred to the Engineer of the Joint Outfall Sewer for report
to the Executive Board and recommendation to the Council.
This being the date set for hearing protests on annexation to the
City of certain territory designated as south of Delhi Road and east
of Standard Avenue, known as "Townsend Annexation~ and no protests
having been received, on motion of Trustee McBride, seconded by Dabl
and carried, the City Attorney was instructed to prepare the neoessar
Ordinance.

On motion of Trustee Dahl,
seconded by Hunter and carried, the
following Ordinance entitled:
"Ordinance amending Zoning Ordinance No. 1074#
to reclassify from R-1 to R-2 District Lots 18, 83, 84, 85, 86, 87
and 88 in Tract No. 1508 which property lies north of the market
property located on the northwest corner of Bristol and Edinger
Streets, was introduced, read, considered and placed on file for
second reading.

from H.J. and Clara M. Gerken, conveying certain real property for
the widening of East 17th St., was read, considered, designated

On motion of Trustee Dahl, seconded by McBride and carried, the follo~
ing Resolution entitled;
"A Resolution of the City Council of the City of
Santa Ana determining and declaring that weeds
which bear seeds of a wlngy or downy nature and
attain such a large growth as to become a fire
menace when dry, and which are noxious and
dangerous, are growing upon certain streets,
sidewalks, and private property in said City of
Santa Aha, and are a public nuisance; directing
the Street Superintendent to post notices to
destroy said weeds as required by law; fixing
the time for hearing objections and protests,
and directing the abatement thereof in accord-
ance withChapter 13, Part 2, Division 3, Title
4 of the Government Code of the State of
California"
was read, considered, designated Resolution No. 52-25 and passed by
the following vote:

of the Civil Service Board meeting held Feb. 13, 1952 and
statement from the Purchasing ~gent showing receipts, disbursements,
and fund balances as of February 29, 1952, were referred to the Financ~
Committee. I
On motion of Trustee Dahl, seconded by Jerome and carried, proper
officials were authorized to execute leases between the City and County
Agricultural Commissioner, Superintendent of Schools and County
Library, for rental of rooms at the Community Center.

On motion of Trustee Hunter, seconded by McBride and carried,
proper
official was authorized to execute escrow instructions with John H.
and Ethel E. Bower for right-of-way in connection with the widening
South Main Stre,t, in the sum of $1165.00.
Requests were read from Grimes Electric Company, 1241 South Main St.
for twenty-minute zones and a loading zone; A.&.A. Curtain Cleaners,
for a twenty-minute zone,
2019 North Main St.~and Santa Aha City Schools for additional loading
zones at Muir, Logan and Edison Schools. On motion of Trustee
Hunter, seconded by McBride and carried, the requests were deferred
until report is received from the appointed committee.
On motion of Trustee Hunter, seconded by McBride and carried,
the
request of the First National Bank for the installation of a light
at or near the east end of the alley on North Main Street, Was g~anted
On motion of Trustee McBride, seconded by Jerome and carried, the
resignation of E.M.Sundquist, as a member of the Library Board, was
referred to Trustee Dahl for recommendation.
Communication was read from City Judge Crookshank advising that the
Supreme Court on March 13, 1952 declared the contract between the Cityl
and David and Paul M. Johnson for the collection of garbage and trash
as valid, and on motion of Trustee McBride, seconded by Hunter and
carried, the communication was received and filed.

Attorney instructed to prepare agreement.
Communication from~City Engineer was presented, with final pay estlmat.
attached, covering construction of sanitary sewer on Myrtle Street and
Pacific Avenue, in accordance with contract with Peerless Concrete
Pipe Corp., and recommending that completed project be accepted by the
Council. On motion of Trustee MOBride, seconded by Dahl and carried
the recommendation was approved and project accepted as completed as
of February 18, 1952.
Communication was read from South Main Improvement Association request.
lng that Council consider the classification of Edinger Street
as A primary thoroughfare west to Harbor Boulevard and east to Newport
Boulevard and urging support of proposal for a bridge across the Santa
Ana River at Edinger Street. On motion of Trustee Hunter, seconded
by Dahl and carried, the communication was referred to the Planning
Commission for recommendation.

On motion of Trustee Jerome, seconded by Dahl and carried, the request
of'League of United Latin American Citizens for permission to conduct
a public dance on Sunday, April 13, 1952, at the American Legion Hall
was referred to the Chief of Police with power to act.
On motion of Trustee Dahl, seconded by Jerome and carried, the reques
of Mrs. John Bertaina; on behalf of Orange County Society for Crippled
Children and Adults, to solicit funds on March 29, 1952, was granted.

A petition was read signed by t~enty-five residents and property
ownerc in the 1300 and 1500 blocl~ on Spurgeon Street requesting that
four octagonal stop signs be placed at 15th and Spurgeon Streets.
On motion of Trustee McBride, seconded by Hunter and carried, the
request was referred to the Administrator, Engineer and Chief of Polio
for written report at the next meeting.

On motion of Trustee McBride, seconded by Jerome and carried, the
notifications of the State Board of Equalization of alcoholic beverage
application made by Henrietta M. Martin, 904 E. 1st St., was received
and filed.
On motion of Trustee Jerome, seconded by Dahl and carried, the
applications of Horace Clark Whitman, Jr., and Garfield Sivertson;

to drive taxicabs, were received, filed and permits granted.

A petition was read signed by John W. Prentiss et al requesting
annexation to the City of certain uninhabited territory, being a
parcel of land extending along the east line of Main Street 150 ft.
north of the north City limit line and extending 155.25 ft. east of
the east line of Main Street. On motion of Trustee Dahl, seconded
by Jerome and carried, the petition was referred to the Planning
Commission for recommendation at the next meeting.
It was moved by Trustee Dahl, seconded by McBride and carried that
the Civil Service Commission create classification descriptions and
specifications for the position of Assistant City Engineer and to
proceed with the required examination for the creation of an eligible
list for this position.
