HomeMy WebLinkAbout61-068RESOL~£ION NO. 61-68 EXPRESSING THE OPPOSITION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF SANTA ANA, CALIFORNIA, TO SENATE BILL 208 WHEREAS, the City of Santa Ana, a Charter city, through its Attorney has for the past ten years urged and supported legislation seeking uniform claims statutes for the State of California through the League of California Cities and endeavored to require the time periods for State, County, General Law Cities and Charter Cities to be made uniform in the interest of protecting the public and still affording reasonable notice as a guard against fraudulent claims; and WHEREAS, with the adoption of Chapter 724 of the Statutes of 1959, the confusion that had existed prior to the effective date of said Chapter was largely eliminated, and claims procedures against cities, counties, districts or other political subdivisions were made uniform'and special Charter provisions were eliminated; and WHEREAS, Santa Ana is justifiably proud of the leadership it, a Charter City, has rendered in seeking such uniformity and still seeks to have all of the claims statutes of the State of California, including those affecting the State itself, placed in one Chapter of the Government Code to provide absolute uniformity for our State and opposes any exceptions or exemptions that may affect the splen- did start made by the Legislature of this state at the last regular session. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the City Council of the City of Santa Aha hereby opposes the adoption of Senate Bill 208 and urges that said Bill be killed in committee, and if reported out that the Me~mbers of the Senate express their opposition by voting against the passage of said Bill.
