CITY OF SANTA ANA, CALIFORNIA, APPROVING THE
HOLDING OF A PUBLIC HEARING ON THE QUESTION OF
ABANDONING MacARTHUR BOULEVARD AND EXPRESSING
APPRECIATION FOR CONSIDEBATION GIVEN TO~ANGE
COUNTY INTERESTS BY SENATOR RANDOLPH COLLIER
WHEREAS, for the past six or seven years there has been dis-
cussion regarding extension of the Orange County Airport runway to
cut and vacate portions of MacArthur Boulevard, running Southerly
from Newport Avenue to the Corona Del Mar area, or the re-routing
of said MacArthur Boulevard; and
WHEREAS, any vacation or abandonment of any portion of, or
the re-routing or realignment of, MacArthur Boulevard has always been
opposed by the City of Santa Ana and by other cities in the Southern
and Central portions of Orange County; and
WHEREAS, it now appears that State Highway Route 184, commonly
referred to as Corona Del Mar Freeway, is being considered to replace
a portion of MacArthur Boulevard and to result in the vacation of a
portion of MacArthur Boulevard.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SANTA ANA, CALIFORNIA: That MacArthur Boulevard affords a direct
North and South link between the beaches and business areas in the
vicinity of Corona Del Mar and the County Seat of Orange County in
Santa Ana, California, the financial and commercial center of Orange
County and, by reason of connecting major streets, a direct link with
the principal cities in the Central part of the Santa Ana River Basin;
and this City Council urges that every consideration be given to the
preservation of this direct route and the retention of all of MacArthur
Boulevard as a direct connection to the heavily populated areas of
said County.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That years of study and effort have
resulted in limitation of the Orange County Airport runway for the
sole purpose of avoiding any re-routing or realignment of MacArthur
Boulevard, which is now threatened by Senate Bill 765.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That MacArth~r Boulevard is presently
proposed as the principal highway access to the University of California
property now being developed along the Easterly side of said Boulevard.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That this City Council expresses its
appreciation to Senator Randolph Collier, Chairman of the Senate
Transportation Committee, for hisunderstanding of the concern of the
citizens of Orange County in this problem and his suggestion that a
public hearing be held on this matter before his Comunittee as a part
of the consideration of Senate Bill 765, and urges that this major
highway link between the beach areas and the heart of Orange County
along and through the area of the new University of California campus
be preserved in its present alignment.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That Resolution No. 61-118 is hereby
rescinded.
