to the C-2 General commercial District, being property located on the
east side of North Sycamore Street between 10th and Washin~on Avenue,

from R-1 to R-2 property situated on the east side of Bristol Street
between 18th Street and the south line of the school property, in
accordance with amendment application of Emmet Rogers, was introdueed,
read, considered and placed on file for second reading.

0ommmnication was read from the Planning Commission recommending
approval of Tentative Map of Tract No. 1825, submitted by John M.
for Park Lane Estates covering property bounded on the north by Memory
Lane and on the east by Flower Street and consisting of sixty-five lot~
providing that.a forty-foot right,-cf-way,be established from the
line of Memory Lane; that all eucalyptus trees be removed and that the
curbs and sidewalks meet the requirements of the City Engineering
Department. Charles Rester, 1006 North Towner Street suggested that
the eucalyptus trees be retained. Henry Cox, of Garden Grove
ed that the Council communicate with the State Division of Highways in
an effort to retain the trees. L.J.~herwin, 2730 North Flower Street
owner of property north of the proposed subdivision objected to the
eucalyptus t~ees'being retained and decreasing the forty-foot
way to be established from the center of Memory Lane. On motion of

No. 1824 was referred to the State Division of Highways for approval.

The Clerk read a petition signed by eighty residents of Free~n Street
between Washington Avenue and Seventeenth Street requesting the re-
moval of the city buses from Freeman Street. Carl F. Truitt, 1330
Freeman Street appeared before the Council requesting that the petitiOn
on file be rejected and that the Bus Company not be asked to change
its route. Mr. Truitt presented a petition containing approximately
sixty-three names stating the signers are in favor of the route being
continued, maintained and operated as now established, and asked that
his name be stricken from the original petition. F.E.McCarter, 1501
Freeman Street stated he was in favor of the bus line operating on
Freeman Street. On motion of Trustee McBride, seconded by JerOme
and carried, the petitions were received, filed and request for a
change in the bus route denied.

On motion of T~ustee Dahl, seconded by McBride and carried, Map Tract
No. 1630, submitted by Roy Greenleaf Jr., for the improvement of
Linwood Avenue was approved for official signatures and check in the
sum of $756.76 accepted as bond for the improvement of the sidewalks.

F;E.MoOarter, 1501 Freeman Street stated he wished to go on record as
objecting to the acquisition of the property located at Third and Bush
Streets to be used for the establishment of off-street parking lot
as recommended by the Chamber of Commerce survey.

Communication was read from C, Kenneth Smith, President, Mater Del
Boosters Club stating that the Club is planning a four day carnival
on June llth to 14th inclusive and requesting that the license fee of
$150.00 per day be waived as the funds raised are to be used to
finance the athletic program at Mater Dei. On motion of Trustee
Lateen, seconded by Jerome and carried, the request was denied for the
reason that under the provisions of the Municipal Code the Council
does not have the power to waive the license fee.

Communication was read from Arthur F. Mumper, Property Manager, A.G.
Eldred & Company, together with copy of Resolution which was passed
by l~xe COuncil of the City of Long Beach pertaining to unrented gas
heaters and requesting that the 0ouncll pass a similar resolution in
the interest of the property owners of this area. On motion of
Trustee Dahl, seconded by Jerome and carried, the communication and
Resolution were received, filed and no further action taken.

It was moved by Trustee Dahl, seconded by Jerome and carried, that at
such time as the plans and specifications for improvements of Tracts
1705 and 1534 are submitted that they be approved without the install-!i
ation of sidewalks and that this approval be made in light of the
Ordinance stating that it is at the option of the City Council to
request or not to request sidewalks in light of the surrounding
territory, and further in the light of our policy that if the proposedi
subdivision streets, or extensions of streets, upon which there are
sidewalks, or exieting at the time, that sidewalks will not .be re-
qulred, otherwise they will be required.

A petition was read signed by twenty-eight merchants in the 2000 block
South Main Street requesting the .removal of the trees along the side-
walks in the block. On motion of Trustee McBride, seconded by Dahl
and carried, the petition was referred to the Forestry Board for
recommendation at their earliest convenience.

A petition was read signed by six property owners on ~msh Btreet
questing that one-hour parking be extended on Bush Street from 10th
to 12th Street and on motion of T~ustee Jerome, seconded by Dahl and
carried, the request was referred to the curb usage committee.

On motion of Trustee Jerome, seconded by Dahl and carried, the request
of Lithographic Arts, Inc., ll8 North Sycamore Street, that a loading
.zone be established in front of their place of business was referred
to the committee on curb usage for report.
On motion of Trustee Dahl, seconded by Jerome an~ carried, communication
from R.O.Todd, 2315 Fairmont Avenue, stating that the trash men refuse~
to pick up a banana palm tree which had been cut up in ~wo foot length~,
was received and filed.

Communication was read from E.M.Prince requesting approval to install
%~wo bicycle racks and bolt them in the parkway in front of 919 and 9291
West St. Andrews Place, and on motion of Trustee McBride, seconded by
Dahl and carried, the request was granted subject to the approval of
the Police Department.
On motion of Trustee Dahl, seconded by Jerome and carried, the
resignation of Alex B~ownridge, as a member of the Library Board, was
accepted With regret and the Clerk instructed to write a letter of
~appreclation for his services.
It was moved by Trustee Dahl, seconded by Lateen and carried, that in
the matter of the application of the Pacific Electric Railway Company
for authority to sell and lease certain passenger operative cex~
tificates and certain passenger facilities, that the City Attorney be
directed to address a communication to the Public Utilities Corporatio~
of the State of California, a copy to be forwarded to C.W.Oornell,
Attorney, Pacific Electric Railway Company, advising that it is tl~e
intention of the City of Santa Aha to file an appearance and plea in
this matter and reques~i~ additional time in which to do so, and
requesting that the City be advised of all hearings to be held under
the application.

On motion of Trustee Jerome, seconded by LaVsen and carried, the claim 1
of Rosa Liebe~mann, for injuries sustained when she fell on the defe~-~
tire sidewalk adjacent to the northerly side of Stafford Street approx-
imately midway between Lacy and Minter Streets, in the sum of $3500.00

notification of ~he State Board of Equalization of alcoholic beverage

Meeting
of the Exe~ative Committee/of the Joint Outfall Sewer held at Anaheim,
April 2, 1953, were received and filed.

It was moved by Trustee Jerome, seconded by Dahl and carried, that
J.L.McBride be appointed the Santa Aha City member of the Executive
Committee of the Orange County Joint 0utfall Sewer.

It was moved by Trustee Jerome, seconded by Dahl and carried, that
Courtney R. Chandler be appointed as alternate to said J. L. McBride,
as a member of the Executive Committee of the Orange County Joint
Outfall Sewer.

On motion of Trustee Jerome, seconded by Dahl and carried, the request
of J.L.McBride for permission to leave the Brats for the period April
30th to May 8th, 1953, was granted.

On recommendation of the committee and on motion of Trustee Jerome,
seconded by Lateen and carried, the bid of the Home Oil Company was
~cepted as the low bid,~f~r t~e .furnishing of gasoline for one year
beginning 1/ay 1, 1953 and ending April 30, 1954, and all other bids
rejected.

On motion of Trustee Dahl, seconded by Jerome and carried, the bids
for the widening and construction of South Main Street from Anahurst
Place to McFadden Street, east side only, were held over until the
next meeting.

Communication was read from the City Attorney recommending that the
City pay the charge of $912.00 rendered by the County of Orange by
reason of the consolidation of the Santa Ana City propositions with
the November $, 1952 General Election. On motion of Trustee McBride,
seconded by Jerome and carried, the Clerk was authorized to draw a
war~ant in favor of the County Board of Supervisors, in the sum of
$912.0o.

On recommendation of the City Manager and on motion of Trustee Jerome, i
seconded by Lateen and carried, the request of the Military Order of
the Purple Heart, Inc. for permission to use one meter parking space
to display an exhibit of antique and modern firearms and war equip-
ment, was denied.
The City Manager recommended the installation of three twenty-four
minute zones in front of the Floral Park Post Office on West 17th
Street, reference the request of the Postmaster, beginning at the
easterly end of the red zone and dontinuing for three car lengths.
On motion of Trustee Jerome, seconded by Lateen and carried, the
recommendation was approved and the City Engineer instructed to
prepare a Resolution establishing the three twenty-four minute zones.

On recommendation of the committee and on motion of Trustee Dahl,
seconded by Larsen and carried, the request of Edward A. Miller, M.D.
309 W. 8th Street, that a white zone be established in front of hie
office, was denied.
The City Manager recommended that no action be taken on the requests
of Mrs. E.N.Goddard for a boulevard stop sign on Broadway at 8th Str'eet
or that a red curb for at least two car lengths be established in
front of the office building located on the north side of 8th Street,
and that a "slow" sign be painted on the pavement on 8th Street at
Patton, and stated that there are adequate red zones on both sides of
B~oadway at 8th Street. On motion of Trustee Dahl, seconded by
Jerome and carried, the recommendation was accepted, except for the
painting of the red zone on Broadway at 8th Street and matter referred
to the City Attorney to determine if there is an existing Resolution
and if not, to prepare a Resolution to establish the red zone to the
driveway.

prepare a Resolution establishing a loading zone at 520 East tth Street,
reference the request of Mrs. G.R.Dorfsmith.

the City Manager be authorized to obtain appraisals of current values
on the following City owned properties wherever such data is not
already on file on a current basis: 1. That property on the north-
east corner of 20th and Main Streets; 2. That property on the west
side and fronting Main Street and lying directly south of the Bekins
Storage property; 3. That property presently occupied by the Santa
Ana Fire Department at 625 Cypress Avenue; and, further that arrange-
merit for sale of these properties without sealed bids be made in con-
formance with the provisions of Section 2613 of the Santa Ana Municipal
Code under the following special provisions: A. That each such sale
be arranged at the earliest time
