HomeMy WebLinkAbout66-044RESOLUTION 66-44 OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA
EXPRESSING OPPOSITION TO PROPOSED LEGISLATION
TO AMEND THE PROVISIONS OF THE EDUCATION CODE
REGARDING LIBRARIES
WHEREAS, in 1963 major changes in the provisions regulating
libraries were made by amendments thereto so that today we have
provisions which are the result of joint study and approval of
nearly all interested groups; and
WHEREAS, new proposals to further amend these provisions
regulating libraries and State aid to libraries which would greatly
and unnecessarily increase the allocation of State tax revenue to
libraries under the new formulas, which this Council does not approve,
would, if adopted, render a dlsaervice to the communities of the
State and spend vast sums of money which are unnecessary at a time
when the State budget is growing at an unprecedented and unsupportable
rate.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the City Council of the
City of Santa Aha hereby declares its complete opposition to the
proposed changes of the Education Code regarding libraries now
pending before the 1966 Special Session of the California Legislature
and urges its representatives and all other legislators:to actively
oppose and to vote against any proposed change in the library
legislation.
