HomeMy WebLinkAbout66-075RESOLUTION 66-75 URGING SUPPORT FOR PROPOSITION W,
THE METROPOLITAN WATER DISTRICT BOND ISSUE APPEARING
ON THE PRIMARY JUNE 7THBALLOT
WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California
must immediately start construction of pipe lines, tunnels, and other
facilities to distribute water from Northern California through
Southern California to insure a continuation of adequate water
supplies and has placed an $850,000,000 Water Bond issue on the
June 7th ballot which will be identified as Proposition W; and
WHEREAS, said Northern California water is necessary to
continue our present metropolitan flow and to greatly increase the
same to provide for future growth and insure against curtailment in
dry periods; and
WHEREAS, the continued prosperity and continued growth of
Southern California in general and Orange County in particular depends
upon a dependable and consistent supply of our most critically needed
commodity, water, and this bond issue will spread the cost over the
long period of benefit and avoid an abrupt and very material tax
increase to require the present citizens of the area to pay the entire
cost in the next few years for the use of the area for the next fifty
years.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SANTA ANA that all voters in this City, the County of Orange,
and the Southern California area are urged to support and vote "YES"
on Proposition W, the most important and necessary measure on the
June ballot, to keep taxes down and guarantee a continued supply of
water.
