HomeMy WebLinkAbout67-082RESOLUTION NO. 67-82 IN SUPPORT OF SENATE BILL 861 PROPOSED BY SENATOR TOM KUCHELAND THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES BILL NO. 6271 INTRODUCED BY CONGRESSMAN H0SMER WHEREAS, the 90th Congress is considering legislation to authorize a Colorado River Basin Project; and WHEREAS, The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California has continually urged that a regional solution to the dwindling water supplies of the Colorado River be found and that new projects to divert more water from that River within the Lower Basin should only be authorized within a regional framework; and WHEREAS, the following features are considered basic to any sound regional development for the Colorado River Basin: 1. Recognition of the necessity for meaningful steps to augment the inadequate flows of the Colorado River. 2. Creation of a Lower Basin Development Fund to assist in financing such augmentation, together with authorization of Hualapai Dam to provide revenues for the Fund. 3. Authorization of the Central krizona Project. 4. Protection of existing uses in Arizona and Nevada and in California to the extent of 4.4 maf annually, against the uses of the Central Arizona Project; and WHEREkS, these principles are included in proposed legislation introduced by Senator Thomas Kuchel'as S. 861 and by Congressman Craig Hosmer as H.R. 6271. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the City of Santa Ana does hereby s~upport, in principle, S. 861 and H.R. 6271 and companion bills, and urges their passage.
