HomeMy WebLinkAbout69-117RESOLUTION 69-117 OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA SUPPORTING THE ENACTMENT OF LEGISLATION TO ALLOW 1970 CENSUS QUESTIONNAIRE REPLIES TO BE ON A VOLUNTARY BASIS WHEREAS, the Federal Government will conduct a national population survey in the year 1970; and WHEREAS, this survey will employ questionnaires contain- ing numerous items of inquiry; and WHEREAS, many of these questions are of a highly personal nature which the Council deems unnecessary to a successful census; and WHEREAS, replies to these questions are made mandatory under penalty of the law; and WHEREAS, the Council sees the forced response to personal questions as a further erosion of personal liberty; and WHEREAS, the Council vigorously opposes any trend toward the confiscation of individual rights; NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA, CALIFORNIA, DOES HEREBY RESOLVE: 1. To pledge its unqualified support to the enactment of legislation designed to allow the replies to questions appearing on the 1970 Federal Census questionnaires to be on a voluntary basis; and 2. To provide copies of this Resolution to our Congressmen in both the State and Federal Legislature. PASSED AND ADOPTED by the city Council of the City of Santa Ana at its regular meeting held on the 4th day of August, 1969.
