HomeMy WebLinkAbout70-117RESOLUTION 70-117 DECLARING THE RESULT OF THE CANVASS OF ELECTION RETURNS OF THE SPECIAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION HELD IN THE CITY OF SANTA ANA, CALIFORNIA, ON NOVEMBER 3, 1970 WHEREAS, the City Council, by Ordinance NS-1028, called a special election to be held in the City of Santa Ana on November 3, 1970, to submit to the electors of said City certain propositions proposing amendments to sections of the Charter of the City of Santa Ana; and WHEREAS, the propositions voted on at said election were in words and figures, as follows: E Shall Article IV of the Charter of the City : : of Santa Aha be amended to increase the : YES : compensation paid to city councilmen from : : $125.00 per month to $400.00 per month, and : : the additional salary of the mayor be increased : : from the present $75.00 per month to $400.00 : : per month, said increase to be effective only : : as to the successors to those councilmen and : NO : mayor now in office? : : F Shall Article IX of the Charter of the City : : of Santa Ana be amended to permit the : YES : Personnel Board to meet monthly only in the : : event there is business on its agenda, but : : in no event to meet less often than : NO : quarterly? : : G Shall Article X of the Charter of the City of : : Santa Ana be amended to delete the require- : YES : ment that a waiver of residence requirements : : for applicants for employment with the City : : of Santa Ana receive the approval of the : : Personnel Board? : NO : : : and WHEREAS, a copy of the records as entered on the minutes of the Board of Supervisors of Orange County showing the results of the canvass of the returns of said special election and absentee votes cast thereat has been duly received. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the City Council hereby finds, determines and declares that the votes cast at said special election for and against said propositions and the absentee ballots cast for and against said propositions show the total of all votes cast on each of said propositions and the total of said votes for and against each of said propositions to be, and said totals are, as follows: -1- City of Santa Ana Proposition E City of Santa Ana Proposition F City of Santa Ana Proposition G YES NO TOTAL 6,306 28,169 34,475 21,221 11,500 32,721 15,003 17,849 32,852 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That Propositions E and G failed to receive the affirmative vote of a majority of the electors voting thereon and said two propositions are hereby declared to have failed. PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Santa Ana at its regular meeting held on the 21st day of December, 1970.
