PLANNING COMMISSION AND GRANTING A VARIANCE ON
VARIANCE APPLICATION 70-63 FILED BY LORRAINE B.
ELAM, SUBJECT TO APPLICABLE CONDITIONS
WHEREAS, after public hearing on notice, the Planning
Commission denied a variance on Variance Application 70-63 filed
by LORRAINE B. ELAM requesting the utilization of the rear 100
feet of property for an auto wrecking yard in the R-1 District
at 5106 West Hazard Avenue, Santa Ana, California; and
WHEREAS, Appeal Application No. 250 was duly filed by the
applicant appealing the decision of the Planning Commission to
deny said Variance and p~esenting the matter to the City Council;
and
WHEREAS, the City Council, after public hearing on notice,
has determined that said Variance Application meets the requirements
of Section 41-638 of the Santa Ana Municipal Code and that said
Variance is granted subject to certain applicable conditions;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the City Council of
the City of Santa Ana hereby overrules the decision of the
Planning Commission and does hereby grant a variance on Variance
Application 70-63, filed by LORRAINE B. ELAM, to permit the
establishment of an automobile wrecking yard on a lot in the R-1
District at 5107 West Hazard Avenue, Santa Ana, California; said
Variance is granted subject to the following conditions:
1. That said Variance is granted for a period of one year;
2. That the front portion of the property is to be landscaped;
That a driveway is to be constructed of gravel from the front
property line to the existing garage and to the wrecking
yard at the rear;
4. That the 5-foot chain link fence surrounding the wrecking yard
be provided with opaque screening.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Santa
Ana at its regular meeting held on the 4th day of January, 1971.
