A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SANTA ANA APPROVING PARTICIPATION OF THE
SANTA ANA POLICE DEPARTMENT IN THE DEPART-
MENT OF CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY PATROL'S ABANDONED
VEHICLE ABATEMENT PROGRAM
WHEREAS, the abandonment of vehicles on public and pri-
vate property constitutes a public nuisance which should be
abated under a program administered by the Santa Ana Police
Department; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has adopted Ordinance NS-l169,
under the authority of California Vehicle Code Section 22660,
to establish such an abatement program; and
WHEREAS, the State of California under Section 9250.7 of
the Vehicle Code has established an Abandoned Vehicle Trust
Fund under the control of the California Highway Patrol to
support local governments in the administration of such abate-
ment programs; and
WHEREAS, the California Highway Patrol has offered to con-
tract with the City of Santa Ana to make available monies from
said trust fund to assist in defraying the expenses of adminis-
tering Ordinance NS-1169; and
WHEREAS, the Chief of Police of the Santa Ana Police Depart-
ment has recommended that the City of Santa Ana enter into said
contract with the California Highway Patrol and, as administrator
of the Abandoned Vehicle Abatement Program in Santa Ana, has
agreed to perform the services required by the California High-
way Patrol under the proposed contract,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the
City of Santa Aha that the City Council approves the participa-
tion of the Santa Ana Police Department in the California High-
way Patrol's Abandoned Vehicle Abatement Program,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Chief of Police is autho-
rized to enter into a contract with the California Highway
Patrol setting forth the terms and conditions of the City's
participation in said program and is further authorized to
execute said contract on behalf of the City.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City
of Santa Ana at its regular meeting held on the 5
day of November , 1973.
