HomeMy WebLinkAbout73-155RESOLUTION NO. 73-155 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA URGING SANTA ANA CITIZENS TO SUPPORT THE WORK OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION BICENTENNIAL COMMISSION WHEREAS, 1976 will be a year to remember in our nation's history as a time of celebration when Americans recall two hundred years of independence and nationhood; and WHEREAS, the Bicentennial year will ment, a time to remember the past, to enjoy build for the future; and be a time of achieve- the present, and to WHEREAS, the California and National American Revolution Bicentennial Commissions have designated three themes for the Bicentennial Commemoration: Heritage '76, to recall the past, Festival U.S.A., the contemporary cultures around us, and Horizon~ '76, to challenge ideas which improve and inspire the peoples of the United States of America, the State of California, the County of Orange, and the City of Santa Ana for generations to come; and WHEREAS, it is an effort to share with other Americans and the world the traditions, cultures, hospitality and character cf the United States and all its people, and to honor the con- tributions of other nations and their people to the development of Santa Ana and th~ nation; and WHEREAS, the American Revolution Bicentennial Commemora- tion will involve civic associations, service clubs, Chamber of Commerce, youth groups, social organizations, parochial organi- zations, ethnic units, educational instrumentalities and individuals not associated with any organizations; and WHEREAS, thE: American Association of Museums has recommended that museums be made the focal point of American Revolution Bicen- tennial Commemoration and further recommended that communities form committees to determine the most important unmet needs of their museums, the solutions which would be designated as the "Two-Hundred Birthday Present" to the people of the community and the United States, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the City Council of the City of Santa Ana, by and for the citizens of Santa Ana, urge ell citizens - young and old - to contribute information, time and assistance toward the success of the Bicentennial Commemoration and further urge that all citizens familiarize themselves and their associations, both social and business, with the Bicentennial.
