A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SANTA ANA OPPOSING ASSEMBLY CONS-
TITUTIONAL AMENDMENT 67.
WHEREAS, Assembly Constitutional Amendment 67 is
an amendment to the California Constitution now being con-
sidered by the Assembly Committee on Constitutional Amend-
ments; and
WHEREAS, Assembly Constitutional Amendment 67 would
amend the house rule provisions of the California Constitu-
tion to take away from local government and give to the Le-
gislature ultimate authority to provide procedures for hiring,
promotion, discipline and dismissal of policemen and firemen
in charter and general law cities; and
WHEREAS, Assembly Constitutional Amendment 67 would
remove from charter cities the authority to provide for the
constitution, regulation and government of the city police
force; and
WHEREAS, such a constitutional amendment would be a
detriment to local law enforcement and fire prevention and
preclude local jurisdictions from deciding what is best in law
enforcement and fire prevention for their respective jurisdic-
tion;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the City Council
of the City of Santa Ana does hereby oppose Assembly Constitu-
tional Amendment 67.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of
Santa Ana at its adjourned regular meeting held on the 11
day of A~arch , 1974.
