A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA
COMMENDING ASTRONAUT GERALD P. CARR
WHEREAS,
GERALD P. CARR attended schools in Santa Ana and
was a citizen of this City for many years prior
to his entry into the United States Marine Corps;
and
WHEREAS,
GERALD P. CARR has served honorably and faithfully
in the Armed Services of the United States of
America, bringing credit to himself, his family,
and his community; and
WHEREAS ,
GERALD P. CARR voluntarily entered into the
vigorous training program of the American Manned
Space effort and was rewarded for his diligent
perseverance and exceptional accomplishments by
his selection as an Astronaut for the Skylab
Project; and
WHEREAS,
GERALD P. CARR was, in recognition of his skill,
knowledge, and leadership qualities, selected as
Commander for the Skylab III Space Mission; and
WHEREAS,
GERALD P. CARR successfully completed his assigned
mission, exhibiting outstanding courage and
ability, and achieving with his fellow astronauts
on Skylab III the proud distinction of having
spent the period from November 16, 1973 to February
3, 1974, in space, gathering important and valuable
information for the advancement of science and the
betterment of all mankind;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the City Council of
the City of Santa Aha hereby commends ASTRONAUT
GERALD P. CARR as an outstanding American whose
courageous endeavors in our space program have
marked an exciting chapter in the history of man's
most important technical and scientific achieve-
ments. The vigorous dedication of GERALD P. CARR
and all of his colleagues has set a proud example
for this community and the Nation in peaceful
accomplishments we may attain for the benefit of
the entire world.
The City of Santa Ana extends to ASTRONAUT GERALD
P. CARR and to his family its grateful appreciation
and sincere wishes for a future as illuminating and
fulfilling as his illustrious past.
