A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA
SUPPORTING THE ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS ON THEIR
MOTION TO ASSUME RESPONSIBILITY FOR ENFORCEMENT OF THE
STATE EMPLOYEE HOUSING ACT AS IT PERTAINS TO FARM LABOR
CAMPS IN ORANGE COUNTY AND IN DESIGNATING THE ORANGE COUNTY
HEALTH DEPARTMENT AS THE ENFORCEMENT AGENCY FOR FARM LABOR
CAM~ LAWS IN ORANGE COUNTY.
The City Council of the City of Santa Aha is very concerned about certain
undesirable conditions existing in some farm labor camps within Orange
County; and
WHEREAS, The Orange County Board of Supervisors also shares that concern; and
The Employee Housing Act of the State of California provides that laws
pertaining to farm labor camps shall be enforced by the California
Department of Housing and Co~nunity Development but that responsibility
for such enforcement may be assumed by local governments; and
WHEREAS, The Orange County Board of Supervisors have informed the Department of
Housing and Urban Development that they wish to assume this responsibility;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the City Council of the City of Santa Aha
does hereby support the action by the Orange County Board of Supervisors
informing the California Department of Housing and Community Development
that they wish to designate the Orange County Health Department as the
agency responsible for enforcing farm labor camp laws in Orange County,
and that this support shall be given with the stipulation that in
adopting this resolution the City Council is not relinquishing any
of its duly constituted powers which are necessary for the protection
of the health, safety and welfare of all its citizens.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Santa Aha at its regular
meeting held on the 15th day of Jul~ , 1974.
