A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SANTA ANA CREATING A VIET-NAM ERA VETERANS
PROGRAM FUNDED AND GOVERNED BY TITLE I OF THE
COMPREHENSIVE EMPLOYMENT AND TRAINING ACT
OF 1973.
WHEREAS,
Viet-Nam Era veterans have received little of the recognition
and praise awarded veterans of earlier wars, serving their
country at e tims of divided public opinion; and
WHEREAS,
Recent studies concluded that today's Government Issue Bill
provides less assistance toward post-secondary education and
training than did the Government Issue Bill of World War II;
and
WHEREAS, Many veterans cannot afford to use their benefits dus to the
increasing cost of living and high unemployment; and
WHEREAS,
Section 96.30 of the rules and regulations governing Title II
of the Comprehensive Employment and Training Act of 1973
states:
"Special consideration shall be given to veterans who served
in the armed forces in Indo-China or Korea, or the waters
adjacent thereto, on or after August 5, 1964, and who
received other than a dishonorable discharge."
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the City Council of the City of
Santa Ana does hsrsby create and initiate a Viet-Nam Era
Veterans Program through utilization of funds under Title I
of the Comprehensive Employmsnt and Training Act of 1973.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Santa Ana at its
regular meeting held on the 19th day of August , 1974.
