Home My WebLink About75-007RESOLUTION NO. 75-7 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA APPROVING A GRANT APPLICATION FOR THE PURPOSE OF OBTAINING AN EMERGENCY POLICE VEHICLE LIGHTING SYSTEM FROM THE CALIFORNIA STATE OFFICE OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE PLANNING AND AUTHORIZING THE CHIEF OF POLICE OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA TO EXECUTE ALL DOCUMENTS PERTINENT THERETO WHEREAS, the City of Santa Ana desires to undertake a cer- tain safety project to purchase modern and efficient emergency vehicle lighting system and to equip the eighteen remaining Santa Ana Police patrol vehicles with the so-named equipment as described above and in the attached LEAA application. Specific objectives are to reduce accidents involving police vehicles responding to emergency calls and secondary accidents occurring at accident scenes by 50%. Existing traditional lighting devices are inadequate and do not afford optimum protection to motorists, accident victims, and police officers. WHEREAS, the City of Santa Ana does take notice that it has taken the initial step to provide greater safety to the police and motorists by providing twenty-five patrol units with modern, efficient lighting systems, and that the City of Santa Ana is not financially able to support the additional lighting systems due to numerous priority police needs resulting from high crime and insufficient personnel. The City Council also acknowledges that the Santa Ana Police Department in its Technical Services Capital Outlay Budget Fund, numbered 51-343-641, has a designated capital outlay for emergency lighting. The citizens of Santa Ana believes it will be in its best interest, economically and administratively, to have those funds, the sum of $1,073, utilized for purchasing a more modern emergency vehicle lighting system, by having that local budget allocation be supported by state and federal funds through the California State Office of Criminal Justice Planning. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Santa Ana that the Chief of Police, Raymond C. Davis of the Santa Ana Police Department, was authorized on its behalf, to submit the attached application for grant for law enforcement purposes to O.C.C.J.C. and is authorized to execute on behalf of the City of Santa Ana, a Grant Award Contract consistent with the terms of said application for law enforcement purposes including any extension or amendments thereof. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the applicant agrees to provide all matching funds required for such project (including any extension or amendment thereof) under the rules and regulations of OoC.C.J.C. and the Law Enforcement Assistance Administration and that cash will be appropriated as required thereby.
