RESOLUTION 75-44
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SANTA ANA SUPPORTING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A
DISTRICT COURT OF APPEAL IN SANTA ANA AND SUPPORTING
THE PROPOSAL IN AB 1144 TO ESTABLISH SAID COURT AS
THE SIXTH DISTRICT COURT OF APPEAL; AND INSTRUCTING
THE CLERK OF THE COUNCIL TO CIRCULATE THIS RESOLUTION
TO PERTINENT INDIVIDUALS AND GROUPS IN SUPPORT OF THE
STATED GOAL
WHEREAS, Orange County generates a substantial percentage of the
original proceedings and appeals comprising the case load for the present
Fourth District Court of Appeal; and
WHEREAS, Orange County is presently the second largest county in the
State with approximately 1,650,000 residents; and
WHEREAS, if the proposed court is established, it would serve a
population approximately the same as that served by the present Third and
Fifth District Courts of Appeal; and
WHEREAS, the present location of the Fourth District Court of Appeal
in San Bernardino requires Orange County residents to travel approximately 55
miles in order to avail themselves of the services of the present court; and
WHEREAS, the location of a district court of appeal in Santa Ana as
proposed in AB 1144 would be much more accessible, convenient and desirable
for Orange County litigants, attorneys, witnesses, and jurors.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of
Santa Ana urges the creation of a District Court of Appeal in Santa Ana,
California.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Santa Ana City Council endorses AB 1144,
which provides for the creation of said court by creating a Sixth District
Court of Appeal housed in Santa Ana.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the Council is hereby directed
to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Assemblyman Paul B. Carpenter, the
author of AB 1144, and any other persons or groups she deems appropriate in
order to further the creation of the proposed court.
