HomeMy WebLinkAbout75-062RESOLUTION NO. 75-62 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA OPPOSING PROPOSITION A AND SUPPORTING PROPOSITION B IN THE FORTHCOMING ELECTION TO BE CONDUCTED IN THE GARDEN GROVE UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT AREA ON THE 27th OF MAY, 1975; AND, INSTRUCTING THE CLERK OF THE COUNCIL TO PUBLI- CIZE THIS RESOLUTION TO THOSE SANTA ANA RESIDENTS WHO RESIDE WITHIN THE BOUNDARIES OF THE GARDEN GROVE UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT. WHEREAS, voters who reside within the boundaries of the Garden Grove Unified School District will be asked in an election to be conducted on May the 27th, 1975 to decide whether they wish to voluntarily join the Coast Community College District; or, to allow the State of California to assign them to a nearby community college district; and WHEREAS, 27,723 people living in 7,300 residential units, although geographically within the boundaries of the Garden Grove Unified School District, are in fact citizens of the City of Santa Ana; and WHEREAS, the State of California has already indicated the community college district to which these particular Santa Ana residents would be assigned in the event Proposi- tion A fails or Proposition B succeeds to be the Rancho San- tiago Community College District; and WHEREAS, this council feels that the residents of Santa Ana should be allowed to attend their own local college rather than be required to travel to the neighboring cities of Costa Mesa or Huntington Beach to attend a college there; and WHEREAS, these same Santa Ana Citizens would also be required to pay an administrative tax override, over and above their normal tax rate, of 40¢ per $100 evaluation for 4 years decreasing to 20¢ per $100 for an additional 6 years, assessed by the Coast Community College District for the privilege of joining their district; and WHEREAS, there would be no administrative tax override if assigned by the State to the local community college district; and WHEREAS, the local co~m~unity college district has a lower normal tax rate than Coast Community College District. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Santa Ana recommend to the voters of Santa Ana residing within the boundaries of the Garden Grove School District to support Proposition B in the election to be held on May the 27th, 1975, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the same voters be recommended to oppose Proposition A on the same ballot which would deny them the opportunity to attend their own local community college. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the Council is hereby directed to publicize this resolution to the concerned voters, and any other persons or groups she deems appropriate.
