RESOLUTION NO. 78~12
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SANTA ANA POSTHUMOUSLY COMMENDING SENIOR
OFFICER DANIEL ALLAN HALE FOR HIS DEDICATION
TO THE OBJECTIVES OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE, AND
HIS DEDICATION TO HIS DUTY AS A POLICE OFFICER
WHEREAS, on November 12, 1977, Senior Officer Daniel
Allan Hale was on duty in the City of Santa Ana in a patrol
car, at which time he was assigned to a call of a possible
burglary in progress at 517 South Western Street; and
WHEREAS, a burglary of the premises was, in fact,
in progress when Senior Officer Hale arrived as the first
unit on the scene and began circling the house; and
WHEREAS, Officer Ronald W. Berenschot, who was assigned
to follow-up the call, arrived while Senior Officer Hale was
at the residence and began circling the house, unknown to Senior
Officer Hale; and
WHEREAS, Senior Officer Hale then entered the residence
in full awareness of the potential danger to his personal
safety; and
WHEREAS, Senior Officer Hale thereupon confronted
two armed burglars in the premises who then shot and mortally
wounded him.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA:
1. That this Council, together with all citizens
of the City of Santa Ana, mourns and regrets the death of
Senior Officer Daniel Allan Hale, an outstanding officer of
the Police Department of this city, a loyal friend of his
fellow officers, and a good man who loved his wife and children.
2. That this Council hereby posthumously commends
Senior Officer Daniel Allan Hale for his dedication to the
objectives of criminal justice, and his dedication to his
duty as a police officer. Because of his loyalty to a brother
officer and friend, his concern for the objectives of the
criminal justice system, and his dedication to his duty as
a police officer, he disregarded his own safety and placed
himself in great personal danger, which resulted in the sac-
rifice of his life. "Greater love hath no man than this,
that a man lay down his life for his friends." John 15: 13.
