RESOLUTION NO. 78-18
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SANTA ANA COMMENDING BAXTER WARD, LOS
ANGELES COUNTY SUPERVISOR
WHEREAS, Baxter Ward is a member of the Los Angeles
County Board of Supervisors; and
WHEREAS, Baxter Ward has been serving as a county
supervisor for the last five years; and
WHEREAS, Baxter Ward has dedicated himself to im-
proving services to his county residents by constantly work-
ing towards excellence in many Los Angeles County projects;
and
WHEREAS, Baxter Ward has consistently strived for
better transportation programs through all modes of trans-
portation; and
WHEREAS, Baxter Ward provided much leadership to
establish a viable transportation program between San Diego
and Los Angeles; and
WHEREAS, in 1974, Baxter Ward proposed the use of
outstanding rail passenger service to residents of Los Angeles
County, Orange County and San Diego COunty; and
WHEREAS, Baxter Ward's agressive pursuit of this goal
has laid the foundation of regular AMTRAK service between Los
Angeles and San Diego Counties; and
WHEREAS, this service will initiate its' inaugural
run of an eight car passenger train, appropriately named The
"El Camino", between San Diego and Los Angeles on February 14,
1978; and
WHEREAS, through Baxter Ward!s diligence and dedica-
tion to this project, 6.7 million people now living in the
AMTRAK corridor between Los Angeles and San Diego will benefit.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA:
That Baxter Ward should be lauded for his dedication
and coordination with the Counties of Los Angeles, Orange and
San Diego, as well as Cal Trans, AMTRAK, and many other agencies,
public and private, to provide realistic, reasonable transpor-
tation to Los Angeles and San Diego, thus benefiting Santa Ana
on this the inaugural trip of the E1 Camino, February 14, 1978.
