This being the date set for hearing and no protests having been received, amendment
No. 253 initiated by t~e Plsn-ing Commission was considered to reclassify from the R~l
District to the M-1 District proper~y recently annexed to the City, known as the
"Huntzinger and Harbor N.E. ~n~ex", consisting of approximately 8.029 acres, situate
on the north side of Huntzinger Avenue, beginning at a point 1026.44 feet east of
the intersection of the north line of Huntzinger Avenue with the center line of
Narbor BOulevard, with a frontage of ~36.36 feet on Huntzinger Avenue and extending
north for a depth of 127~.83 feet. On motion of Counc~]m~- Gould, seconded by
Hubbard and carried, the following Ordinance entitled:

was introduced, considered and placed on file for second reading.
This being the date set for the continued heax~ng relating to traffic regulations,
and ~ protests having been receive~, the Mayor declared the hear~mg closed. On
motion of Couactlm,, Gould, seconded by Markel and carried, the matter was continued!
until August 4, 1958.
This being the date set for the continued hearing on the revision of water rates,
Edwin Boomhower, 920 South Cedar Street, protested the proposed increase in water
rates. The Manager explained that due to the population growth it is necessary to
plan for an additio--1 reservoir. The Mayor declared the hearing closed. On
motion of ~etlma~ ~)uld, seconded by Hall and carried, the matter was continued
until August 18, 1958, and the Manager instructed to present specific information
on the matter.
Mayor Dale H. Heinly presented a merit certificate and a thirty-day complimentary
pass to the West Coast Theatre to Scott T. Califf, 8592 3/4 Midway Place, Santa Aha,
who was the outstanding driw~ of the month in the Santa Aha Safe Driving Campaign.
On motion of COl~lCtlm~m ~)l~ld, seconded by Hubbard and carried, the recommendation
of the Planning C~m~ission was approved and the variance on property at 2519 West
First Street, in an M-1 District, of Frank O. Butler, Jr., was granted to permit the
use of the front vacant portion of property for a parking lot for Butler's Furniture
Store, 2603 West First Street, subject to conditions and rec~ndations of the
Pl-~n~ng Commission, and to extend the time lfmtt from six months to one year in erda
to complete the improvements.
On motion of ~Ounctlm.~ Gould, seconded by N~11 and carried, the recommenMation of th~
Pl,nning C~mmission was approved and the variance of Veva Dean Some et al granted
to permit use of the "rumpus room" attached to the garage on rear part of the lot on
property at 917 South Birch Street, in an R-2 District, for living quarters.
It was moved by Councilman Gould and seconded by Nall, that the recommendation of
the Planning Co-,,~ssion be approved and the variance of Julian and Sally Bowles
granted to permit construction of a duplex, instead of two one-bedroom units, and one
two-bedroom ,mit, on the westerly portion of the lot at 413 East Chestnut Avenue, in
an R-2 District, subject to conditions.

On motion of Counctlm-~ Hubbard, seconded by Gould and carried, the rec~*.~ndation
of the Planning Co~aission was approved and the request of W. W. and John M. Hoy
granted for a reduction in front yard setback in Tract No. 3296 from 60 feet to a
minimum of 50 feet from the center line of the street, on property located approx-
imately 1100 feet north of Delhi Road, 2100 feet south of Edinger Street and approx~

approved, license tax in the sma of $9~50.00 accepted and agreement covering impro~-

contract awarded to the Santa Aha Independent on June 2, 1958, for legal advertisir~
may be in violation of certain Sections of the California ~overnment Code. On
motion of Counc~lm~n Hubbard, seconded by Hall and carried, the matter was referre~
to the Attorney for investigation and study and to submit a report setting forth
the results of his investigation as to the award of the contract for legal advertis
and if the award is in violation of the California Government Code.

Aha Lodge No. 794 B.P.0.E. was granted to use the Municipal Bowl on Saturday,
