RESOLUTION NO. 79-142
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SANTA ANA APPROVING THE PROPOSAL
FOR CONSTRUCTION OF A NEW INTERCITY COMMUTER
STATION AND AUTHORIZING THE DIRECTOR OF
PUBLIC WORKS TO APPLY FOR $1,688,750 IN
FUNDS FOR SAID CONSTRUCTION
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Santa Ana
has identified improvements to the Amtrak passenger facility
as a top transportation priority with the City of Santa Ana;
and
WHEREAS, the Director of Public Works has formulated
a proposal for a new Santa Ana InterCity Commuter Station to
replace the existing 40-year old Amtrak passenger depot; and
WHEREAS, said proposal has been endorsed by the
Santa Ana Transportation Advisory Committee; and
WHEREAS, funds have been allocated by the legislature
of the State of California for improvement of transportation
passenger facilities; and
WHEREAS, said funds will be allocated according to
Chapter 4.6, Division 3 of the California Streets and
Highways Code, Section 2170 et, seq. ("said law"); and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Santa Ana
desires to approve the submission of an application to fund
said proposal for a new Santa Aha InterCity Commuter Station
in accordance with said law.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SANTA ANA RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
1. The proposal by the Director of Public Works
of the City of Santa Ana for a Santa Ana InterCity Commuter
Station to replace the existing Amtrak passenger depot is
hereby approved.
2. The Director of Public Works is authorized
and directed to make application to the California Department
of Transportation for $1,688,750 in funds for construction
of a new InterCity Commuter Station in accordance with
Section 2170 et seq. of the California Streets and Highways
Code.
3. The Director of Public Works is directed to
contact the appropriate legislative representatives concerned
with this project and solicit their support of the project.
