RESOLUTION NO. 79-224
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SANTA ANA CALLING UPON THE RESIDENTS OF THE CITY
TO FLY AND DISPLAY THE NATIONAL FLAG AND URGING
ALL CHURCHES AND SYNAGOGUES IN THE CITY TO RING THEIR
BELLS FOR TWO MINUTES AT NOON OF EACH DAY UNTIL THE
AMERICAN HOSTAGES HELD IN IRAN ARE RELEASED
WHEREAS, the nation of Iran, in violation of
international law and the historically established practices
of diplomacy, held, for a period of many weeks, and yet
continues to hold, as hostages American citizens assigned to
the Embassy in Teheran; and
WHEREAS, this Council supports the efforts of the
federal government to free said hostages, and desires to
urge the residents of the city to display their support for
said hostages and our nation in this time of international
crisis;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL
oF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA:
1. That this Council does hereby urge all res-
idents of the city to fly and display the flag of the United
States on their premises until the danger to said hostages
has ceased and they have been returned to the jurisdiction
of this nation.
2. That this Council does hereby urge each church
and synagogue within the geographical limits of this city to
cause its bells to be rung for a period of two minutes,
commencing at twelve o'clock noon of each day, until such
time as the American citizens who are held as hostages with-
in the nation of Iran have been released and returned to the
jurisdiction of the United States.
